Info about 95-99 Nissan Maxima Service Engine Soon light

When this light is on, it can be many thing happened to your Maxima
from minor without repair service or to a major problem. I
experienced it happened to my 99 Maxima with only 47K miles on it.
After a diagnotic test ($65 for scan fee) at Bankston Nissan Dealer in
North Dallas, TX. The dealer scaned and printed out a code P1320
which was Ignition Signal Primary. Then the dealer said one of six
cylinder coils was bad and caused a misfire (where misfire was not
related in code P1320 as I found later). The dealer wanted to replace
all six spark plug coils for $700 parts and labor. The reason was
that the dealer did not know which one was bad. I was told that
becase my car was still running good, and it did not show any misfire.
What a rip off! I took my car home after paid $65. Then I found very
helpful websites above. At least I was able to know what P1320 code
was.

I suggest that if you have a same problem, first simply disconnect
your battery overnight or follow the website to reset the ECU. If
there is a problem, the light will be consistenly ON even after you
reset. Since most new cars are equiped with ECU, this unit is very
sensitive. Therefore, too sensitve sometimes does not mean your car
having a major problem.

But you forgot to mention the bottom line here dude,
and that is ,nothing got fixed !

Did the web site happen to mention that if the 1320 code was not fixed that
damage could happen to the catalytic converter?
do you know how much cat's cost ?

And by the way, don't believe everything you read on those specialty web
sites.

Trust me on this , the light WILL be back on.Maybe sooner than you think

I guess that trust or not to trust is up ot the reader. If I don't
care about my car, I would not taken it to a dealer at the first
place. How many people really trust car dealer these days. Of
course, there is a few good ones out there. I remember not a long
ago, there was a guy posted about his Maxima's Service Engine Soon
light ON. He brought his car to a Nissan Dealer. After they fixed
and replaced an 02 sensor, he later had to bring his car back to the
dealer THREE times.
