Can anyone tell me if the 4 cyl. 2009 Sonata engine has a timing chain
or belt?

TIA,

My 2006 has a chain and I can't imagine them changing back to a belt for
the 2009 model. Did you check their web site?

FWIW, customer service told me it was a belt. Dealer said it was a
chain. Just checked Hyundai service web site and there is no mention of
timing belt replacement at about 60,000 mi in the Owner's Manual
maintenance tables. Seems to be a good bet that it is a chain.
Considering buying a 2009 Sonata and a belt would be a "deal breaker".

Thanks for your reply.

I recall reading that all engines are now chain. As for customer service,
most companies lack anyone competent. About the only thing they can do is
send you a coupon good for $1 off your next purchase.

Chain on all Sonata engines in the U.S. beginning with the 2006 model.
