2003 Corolla or Focus?

buy a Ford Focus SE 2003 (or SE Sport)?
What I understand until then, is that the Corolla is a good car, and the
Focus a fun car. Is that right?

Nothing good or fun about my focus.
My 2001 ZX3 has had the following problems to date:
--brake squeal repaired 3 times with no success
--rear strut replacement
--fuel pump replacement
--rear wheel bearing recall
--battery cable recall
--leaking transmission repair 3 times (that's 3 times)
--front wheel bearing failure (at highway speed with heart pounding adrenaline
rush optional)
--radio rewired due to electrical interference
--front steering link repair
--seat belt retract mechanism replacement
--DPFE Sensor replaced due to failure
And Ford Roadside Assistance smashed the front end of my car when attempting to
get it up on the towing truck. After 4 calls to Ford and promises of calls
from the insurance person - there is no response.
No person deserves to suffer the financial and emotional pain of owning a Ford
Focus. The horror of owning this vehicle is beyond comprehension.
There are no words to express the horrifying apprehension I feel when I drive
this car. I have lost several days of work due to this car and spent at least
$1000 in rental car fees.
It is a relief to drive a rental car.

The Corolla is solid, reliable and economical. From what I can gather, the
Focus is now virtually as reliable. It is also roomier, safer, more fun to
drive, and much cheaper to repair.
I have a good friend who has a new Corolla which I ride in periodically. I
wouldn't give you two cents for it compared to my Focus. He likes it, but
then he doesn't like cars; they're just appliances as far as he's concerned.

Anyone else get the impression he/she is just enjoying this misery a bit too
much to be believable?

it felt nice!! I can get one for about £12,000 new is this the cheapest?
I've looked but can't find any cheaper...going to buy at the weekend I
think. I'm sure mrp is about £14,500 -£15,000

The ignition switch locked up on mine. It was a shifter
problem.

My last two cars before the Focus were Corollas. My experience with them
is a bit out of date but I would agree with the above characterization.
Altho' Corolla auto trans are not that solid. Both of mine failed.

I was driving my 2001 ZX3 in stop and go city traffic today and the check
engine light went on, there were loud rattling noises from the engine
compartment. Then the engine died. The ignition switch seemed to be frozen,
but I finally got the car started. I will take it or tow it in to the dealer
tomorrow.
I am curious about what symptoms you had when your ignition switch module
failed?

£15,845 is UK list for the 115PS version. £12,000 is about on the money
for the same car as an import sans leather.

It ran fine. I couldn't get the key out of the ignition. It wouldn't
turn all the way. Usually, I could move the car and the shifter would
then go into park all the way and then the key could be removed fine.
But it ran fine. Yours sounds like a completely different animal.

Wrong place to ask for advice because You´ll only find people who are
unhappy with thier car here (with a few exeptions).
