Key Stuck in ignition

Took it back to the dealer, where they replaced the ignition
cylinder. Key got stuck the next day.
When I took it in the first time, I told them that I thought
the problem was with the shift linkage. When it happened,
the shifter did not feel it was all the way in park. I could
not free it by turning the steering wheel. The only was to
do it was to start the car, move it (just a little is fine,
I would back it up 6 inches) and put it back in park. And usually,
the key was freed.
Took it back a second time, and they could not duplicate the
problem and did nothing. The key stuck in the ignition in
the parking lot of the dealer for me. I showed the service
advisor.
Third time, key stuck in service line. I called the same
advisor over and asked him to take the keys out of my car.
He couldn't do it. I moved my car up in the line, they got
the mechanic out there. Of course, it was fine then. The
mechanic started to explain that I had to make sure the
trans was all the way in Park...
It was in for an engine light (another bad sensor), horn
inop and oil change. And then fate smiled on me. The mechanic
working on the engine light couldn't get the key out.
Long story, I'll cut it short. They replaced the shifter.
No parts available in the Detroit area. No parts in the
New Jersey warehouse. It took over a week to get the
parts in. I didn't mind, since they gave me a loaner.
Linda, if you're reading this, I inquired as to the cost
if it was out of warranty. It's about $400.

Thanks for the info...if it happens again before I get rid of it I'll take it
back along with my previous work sheets and they will pay for it. There are so
many things they couldn't manage to fix...that still haven't been resolved...

Frightening.
I really like my car but I getting worried. Under warranty, they have
replaced the power steering rack, ignition lock cylinder, shifter,
horn, and two sensors. This is over 34,000 miles and 13 months.
I didn't plan on purchasing an extended warranty. My understanding
is that I can up until the car has 36,000 miles on it. I'm going
to look into it. Without a warranty, this would have been an
expensive year.

Do yourself a big favor and buy it...I wondered why they never "offered" me
the extended warranty - now I know why.
However I have a boyfriend that would have a hissy fit if I come home with a
new car otherwise this would be gone in a heartbeat. It might be easier to get
a new boyfriend...and get rid of this time bomb. My Dad worked for Ford so
they have to give me a "good" deal on a trade -in. Since I'm on vacation I may
try shopping it around just to see what offers are out there. Good luck with

(PS - a Ford rep traveling with a Ford show told me there's a 5 door SVT
version coming - anyone know any dates yet ???)

That is true. The announcements say it will be here this fall as an 03
model. And all the hatchbacks are made in the top-notch Hermosillo
factory which I believe produces higher-quality cars than the Michigan
plant.

the same name at least you wouldn't have to worry about calling out the wrong

I'd like to come back to Michigan but I've been in PA. for too long. The rush
hour traffic would kill Darin and I - we're used to the slowness of
Williamsport. But I do miss the Polish food and the Greek food and
Chinatown...I'm from the Detriot area.
Oh well there's always vacations..Linda.
