I hear that the autos are trash. I personally like manual better anyway.
You might need it pulling that much weight, but I am not sure.

Most people who say the automatic transmission is trash either have
little experience with the auto or simply don't know what they are
talking about. The Dodge automatic is a good transmission as long as
you do your part and and don't abuse it and are pulling light loads.
Having said that the Stick is best suited for your intentions unless you
have your heart set on the automatic. In this case there are solutions
that will give you a bullet proof transmission. You will need to change
out the torque converter and valve body as well as something to increase
line pressure and keep the converter locked up. BD, TST, Dunrite
(spelling) and several other companies can do all this for you but there
is a hefty price tag of around $1,500 when all is said and done. Go to
the TDR web site and do a search on automatic transmissions and you will
get a wealth of information. As you go through the posts you will see
many people doing just what you want to do with a automatic transmission
and well over 100,000 with no problems. Also do a search on posts from
Bill Kondoly while your there for some good information on what can be
done with the automatic transmission.

Get the 3500 with HO Cummins, 4.10 axle, and the 6 speed and be happy.
The automatic is not a good deal at all for a trailer that heavy.

Think of it this way. With the manual tranny, you can pull the trailer in
5th or 6th gear, depending on which manual tranny option you pick. With the
automatic, you CANNOT pull that heavy of a trailer in OD and expect it to
live. This has to due with the way they are lubricated, and the Cummins
puts quite a bit of additional stress over the gasoline engines due to the
low RPM torque that it has. Staying away from the automatic tranny behind
the Cummins specs out alot of potential trouble.

Do everything Fitch says and add the exhaust brake to the list.

I pull a 26 ft fifth wheel camper with a 98 1-ton Quad Cab 4x4 dually with
the cummins. Have no problems at all. Get what you want. Or get the stick
and spend the extra money on "the list" this group says you need.

If a company can't build an auto tranny worth a flip, how better do you
think their vehicles are?

Brian, See what we in aadt have started to call "Stupid Fucks", they are
usually trolls, usually previous or current dodge owners who had a bad
experiance with a dodge, and think everything dodge makes is shit.

This particular one is a Ford Lover now, he blindly swears up and down on his
Ford Powerstroke, bragging its the best machine ever built.

There are a few others in our group who (by the list of what went wrong)
probably abused their vehicles, and/or did not follow the correct guidelines
on use. Like you shant tow in Overdrive for instance.

Damn...Don't encourage him.....:-)

He's like a damn liberal spouting all their shit. Its always the same things
over and over again, there is always a large amount of it, and for the amount
spewed very little is said.

Could a person swap in a 5 or 6 speed Allison Auto?
