Banks Power stuff... suggestions?

I've got a 1998.5 Dodge Diesel and a 50% discount at Banks Power... any
suggestions?

I've heard that the computer upgrades will void the Cummins warranty. (It's
got 69,000 miles so I've got a little bit left there.) DH wants the
Git-Kit TLC, but is this safe for the engine, nevermind the warranty?

What about the exhaust system? DH likes the Monster Exhaust. Has anyone
had a problem with warranty work after they've put on a new exhaust system?
Does it really help, or does it just look shiny and big?

Or go shopping on this page:
http://www.bankspower.com/app.cfm?appid=AD01
and tell me what you'd get, if anything.

If you have an automatic transmission - fix up the transmission to handle the
extra power "before" installing any power increasing equipment.

>I've heard that the computer upgrades will void the Cummins warranty. (It's

The after market folks will sing a good song about how the warranty will still
apply, but if you have a warranty problem, they will not be there to help, and
Chrysler will win.

>DH wants the
>Git-Kit TLC, but is this safe for the engine, nevermind the warranty?

The mechanical parts of the engine can handle the power. The fuel transfer pump
has been known to be less than adequate causing injection pump (something like
$3,000.000 to fix) to die a horrible death. It happened to the TDR editor in
fact. Bit article in TDR about it. So add a fuel boost pump before installing
any power increasing options.

In fact I'd highly recommend that you subscribe to TDR and buy the back issues for
the last two years. What you will learn by reading it before you install power
increasing stuff will most likely save you several thousand dollars worth of grief
and standing by the road side waiting for a tow truck.

>What about the exhaust system? DH likes the Monster Exhaust. Has anyone

The stock exhaust system is adequate up to around 300 hp, and 700 ft-lbs of
torque. If you go over that, you will have other problems with things breaking.

>Or go shopping on this page:

>and tell me what you'd get, if anything.

I wouldn't buy anything from Banks. They tend to be very expensive and to sell
you a lot of things you don't need. I have two Dodge 24V trucks and haven't added
any power increasing equipment to either of them - and I could easily afford it if
I wanted to. To me, reliability is the number one feature of a vehicle. Adding
after market stuff to increase power decreases reliability - reading TDR clearly
demonstrates that to be a fact.

If I had an automatic, I wouldn't put on any power increasing options at all.

In my opinion, if you want to add power increasing items to your
Dodge, why not just swap out that auto tranny and install a stick,
(manual trans)?
But as for buying stuff from Banks - do you self a favor and forget
it.
Like Fitch said - Banks won't fix nothing they don't sell you, and if
you screw up your Cummins, be prepared to shell out some bucks.
Course, if you know where the nearest Cummins Engine Company
dealer/shop is, the cost is not as expensive having that shop do it,
as it would be if you let your local Dodge dealer do it.
And who knows, maybe Cumming will honor the warranty on the engine.
But I wouldn't count on it happening.

I didn't see anything there that I couldn't live without, although the
exhaust system is nice and shiny. :) I suppose mine will have to be
replaced eventually, but not quite yet.

DH was just so excited to have won the drawing! But he went off to TDR to
read more and we both decided to leave the truck alone. (I'm afraid to
touch it... it hasn't had a problem in over a year now!)

Thanks,

Oh, great idea especially with the ability to use a "box" to reprogram the auto
trans to handle the extra power, but let's make things complicated instead of
simple
Guess you never heard of the "kiss" principle????

So that means - I take it - that the Manual tranny is hardr to
understand how to use than the Auto tranny? Just cause you have to
add a clutch to use the Stick, might make it harder - but then I
forgot that your brain on the edge of a razor blade, is like a BB in
the middle of an 8lane highway.

You are proving to be a real "genius" in mechanical things.
I saw some writing on the outhouse wall at the track yesterday. Reminded me of
you.
Yo Mama has so much hair under her arms, it looks like she's got Buckwheat in a
headlock
Course looking down the hole reminded me of you too.

No. That is not what it means. I was clarifying what Red meant by the KISS
principal to anyone reading his post not familiar with it. I guess you
missed that too. KISS means Keep It Simple Stupid. Just that. Read into it
what you want.

It is nice to see that you and Redneck like me for something. Qho
knoqs, maybe we might actually wind up being friends, the three of us;
going fishing together, drinking beer at Rednecks favorite bar,
hunting girls together.

1. i do enjoy fishing. but i have several friends that i go with so
i guess you guys will just have to go together. sorry to bug out.

2. don't go to bars.

3. don't "hunt" girls. prefer women, am pretty much tied up with the
one i'm married to. i din't hunt her either though. i never had to
carry a gun to get a date. you are on your own there.

I think the 'dragon" was hoping to raise your "social conscience" by "inviting"
you out??? Don't be sorry, I don't fish, no time, so you & him are on your
own. I'm sure the "dragon" could teach you some new ways to "fish". Maybe
even do some "TNT fishing"

That's your problem

"dragon" probably thinks that means you married your sister or "cuzzin"
I don't know if I'd give him any ideas

I'm not married so I don't have tobacco juice down both sides of my truck.
That should keep the "ol dragon" from getting us mixed up, oh and I don't have
any fishing poles on my gun rack nor carry any TNT to go fishing with. Seems
that you two have a lot more in common than it looked like at first <BFG>
Don't forget, we also got "theguy"

red, just when you put a funny line out to print, you revert back to
the ol red. i just gotta know, how do you associate marriage and
tobacco juice? no real surprise that you are not married, you
probably ran out of sisters. i don't have a gun rack red, but it is a
good place for you to hang your bowling ball while you're in the drift
inn tavern. oh, i see you are taunting me now and using those <>
things and the BFG thing. you do have your major nerd hat on today.

What's the matter, nobody paying any attention to you Mattie?

I think they make a cute couple. Have to get guy into a costume to go with

Maybe Mattie, if you slip into something they'll let you play too.
