I just bought this car with 7000 original miles on it and want to fill
the right side indentation in the bumper cover with a fake pipe but
have no motivation (or need) to replace the original exhaust system to
accomplish this.
Thanks for any input.

Ebay for the tip? Local exhaust specialist to bend/weld you a dummy
pipe to end of muffler & exit to rear & appear as factory models +/- 1 year
from yours? $75 bucks? To really save you lots of aggravation, tho', just
sell me the car--I have a 12000 mile Z-28 that needs a stablemate;) Mine's
red and auto and factory duals and tips? Yours? HTH, s >> <<

I know this is a slighty dead thread here but the 1998 Trans Am
already had dual exhaust. The only F-Body (Firebird/Camaro) cars made
from '98 to '02 that had a single exhaust tip were the base model
Firebird and Camaro. The Camaro Z-28, SS, Firebird Formula and Trans
Am all came standard with the 5.7 Liter LS1 and dual tipped exhaust
(exhaust manifold to Y-pipe to muffler to two tips). If you only have
a single tip, either the exhaust system is aftermarket or broken, or
you have a base model Firebird with the WS6 "visual" package. The WS6
visual only added the hood, a couple other cosmetic parts and possibly
a stiffer suspension on the base model Firebird.
I would check with Brandon @ Maryland Speed.

If anyone can help, he can.

Care to argue about that? If so, do so here (as I don't enjoy
controversy. ;) ): >> http://www.tripletransam.com/WS6/WS6_2000a.html <<
"The regular Trans Am exhaust for 1998 had two outlets with rectangular tips
filling in both cutouts (these cutouts are not present on the Firebird and
Firebird Formula bumpers, only the Trans Am). The high performance WS6 / Ram
Air exhaust system had only a single large outlet from the driver's side of
the muffler. The claim was that the WS6 exhaust system was too loud to pass
full power sound level restrictions with two outlets from the muffler, so
the decision was made to maintain the large high performance characteristics
of the system, but provide only one outlet from the muffler." >> Enjoy,

Why would you put on a fake tip? That might actually cost you more
than simply putting on a take-off exhaust from somewhere else. You
can probably get a take-off exhaust (stock dual tip) for $50-$100.
I put on a 3 inch cat-back that splits after the axle to run two small
Magnaflow mufflers dumping out the stock openings. Now mine is an 82 WS6
T/A but I'm sure something can be found. Putting on a used exhaust system,
unless it's stainless is kind of a waste of time. Even a take-off with low
mileage on it would have been sitting around for 12 years is iffy even if
they hosed it down with oil of some kind and didn't kick it around the shop
as junk. <grins> Might try a local exhaust shop that will build to your
specs. Probably be cheaper and you'll end up with a new system.
