How to tone down modern paint finish

I'm restoring a 36 IHC truck and I'm not really trying for factory finish..
I want the appearance of the era and service of the truck..

Presently I have only about 20% of the original paint to go by but with so
much surface rust, I'm going to have to take it down to bare metal..

I have identified the paint color name but I'm afraid that if I ask it to be
mixed, I will end up with a show sheen rather than what I remember from the
'30s- '40s.

I guess, what I would want to do is flatten the paint and then find someway
to induce a weathered appearance.

This truck is going to be a 'driver' not a competition show vehicle.

Any ideas or thoughts??

Flattening agent can be added to reduce the gloss in some paint systems.
Check with the shop who will be painting the truck or from the body supply
store where you will be getting the paint mixed if you are doing it
yourself.

Sounds reasonable.. I'll mention it to the paint vendor when I order it
mixed..

I'll be painting it myself and knowing my usual results, It ain't gonna have
a show room finish.. But, like I say, "it's only a truck, not a work of
art"..
