I know this is a little off topic, my GM Trucks all have electronic
ignition, but my boat doesn't. I've thought about putting an electronic
ignition module in it instead of doing the next tune up and would appreciate
some input from this newsgroup. The boat is a 1988 Mastercraft with an
Indmar marine conversion based on a Ford 351.

Any recommendations for a EI Module that would work?

Allan <aherdm...@tir.com> babbled forth:

Outfit called Pertronix makes drop-in modules for this very purpose, i.e.
anything that used to have points and should have electronic ignition.

Depending on application, the kits are something like fifty or sixty bucks,
maybe a bit more if you buy local versus mail order, and they seemed to have
kits to fit damn near any kind of distributor, so they oughta have one for
yours, it being pretty normal and all.

They drop in place of your old points, use the same cap and maybe rotor,
require no extra wiring, as I recall, and are generally very cool. I keep
meaning to get one for my old Blazer, but a friend put one on his 40's Mercury
(originally dual points, aargh!) and swears by them now. No adjustment, better
power/economy, the whole nine yards.

Web thingie would be www.pertronix.com if you're so inclined.
