Notman Mailer Letter signed
I know little about buying and selling autographs. However, I have
written to various authors who have written books about the Kennedy
assassination and have had answers from them. I have done years of
research on the subject myself and have had numerous works published
in journals that specialize on the assassination topic.
I read "Oswalds Tale": by Norman Mailer and I noticed an error that
Mailer had made regarding the rifle that was allegedly used to murder
the president. So, I wrote to Mailer and explained what was in error
and provided him with the correct information.
I received a letter from the author thanking me for the correction and
added other information about the assassination. He SIGNED the letter
and printed his name on the outside of the envelope. I have the latter
and its envelope dated and postmarked.
I am curious as to whether there is an interest in the signed letter .
The letter reads:
15 November
Dear Mr. *********,
Forgive the brevity of this reply to your letter of July 3, but I've
been letting all correspondence go while working on the draft of a new
book, and now it's catch-up time when brevity overtakes all my
replies. I read your enclosures with interest and agree that you're
absolutely right about the cost of the rifle. As for the other stuff
about the apartment in Dallas where you say Oswald was staying, I can
only reply that Taylor made an awfully vague witness and the looseness
of his recollections were so general that it was impossible to
establish any dates at all. I did read his testimony before the Warren
Commission and saw no way to use those particular disclosures since
they were simply not nailed down.
I do thank you, however, for your close reading of my book.
Yours sincerely.
signed
Norman Mailer
I also have the envelope that the letter was mailed in complete with
my address and a postmark from Brooklyn, NY dated 22 NOV, 1995 and
return section signed (printed) Norman Mailer
