Hi,

I know that regardless of the vehicle itself, the smell of diesel fuel
will still be there. Is there a way to minimize the smell?

Thanks,

Mia J.

There shouldn't be a smell of diesel fuel in the car. You probably have a
fuel line leaking.

Take the car to a mechanic to have them look underneath and follow the fuel
lines to the front of the vehicle from the tank in the rear. On the old
W123 cars, the rubber fuel lines were bad to get old and leak where they
first exited the tank. I am sure other models probably do the same. Then
examine the filter connections and fuel lines underneath the hood and
replace them as needed.

Run the car on vegetable oil, smells better. Especially if you use perfumed oils.

Trade it for an older one.

As a new mb owner, I think you'll find the tips (and parts with
instructions) at mercedessource.com useful. Either way, I know it's
possible to get a benz diesel to run smoke and smell free since every
diesel my dad had (2 240D's and a 300D...or maybe 2 300D's I'm not
sure) ran clean and smell free.

Which MB diesel are we talking about MIA? With more info, you might
get some ideas where to look for leaks.

You can eliminate it completely by replacing the diesel fuel line on the top
of the engine. diesel fuel line is striped. P.

What about the thin rubber line with clamp that goes into the big
circle thing in the middle? The line got disconnected and there's
some exhaust smoke coming out if it. I put it back on.

I'm sorry I'm so terrible ... I haven't gotten to the manual yet. When
I do, you all will know :)

date another girl
as for the thin rubber thing going to the AIR FILTER yes putting it back
onwill help.

BUT why did it pop off

that is a whole different story
let us know if it pops off again

the case, minus a few cans!

yeah, the air filter ... the device that removes large particles from
air entering the engine.

:0)

what's the exhaust line doing entering the air filter?

>date another girl
wouldn't you like that

He wouldn't if he's a real w126 fan. Girl who works on her own w126?
Shouldn't let that one go to the other side without a fight.

All I meant was that Pool Man would like me to date another girl. All
guys are crazy about the idea of two women together.

Still, why is exaust coming into the air filter? And If I was to
replace fuel lines, do I just cut them/bleed them/replace them?

I found some kits on mercedessource.com - I think they're a little
overpriced, but they are a kit. What do you think? Where else could
you get those lines?

>Girl who works on her own w126?

I guess I'm the one and only like that :)

Other places to try are www.buymbparts.com, www.germanstar.net, and
www.sasponline.com (I haven't bought from them but they are supposed to
be part of the same network of parts suppliers as buymbparts and their
prices are a little better usually). The mercedessource.com ones cost
more because they are kits and come with instructions typically. The
other places just sell you individual parts.

I believe that may be part of your Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)
system. It's a smog thing. It's supposed to give any as yet unburned
fuel vapor in your exhaust one last chance to be consumed by the engine
and put to good use.

Actually I find your knee jerk homophobia to be much more juvenile.

Hehehe...you ever watch the Daily Show? See the one with the guy who
was like "I'm not homophobic, I'm homonausic" and then he started to
hit on the female reporter? I don't know why this reminds me of that.

This has become a waste of my time. Thank you those who were, in fact,
very helpful!

wasteful, it's 3:30 am and I'm working on a paper, I needed a break.
