Paint jobs for Mercedes

Hi. I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the US and I have an 84 300D
that needs a paint job after some repairs. Are there any questions I could
ask of a repair shop owner to indicate that he has the right tools to paint
the car right? Are there any reviewable painting standards in use by
Mercedes? (Type of paint, number of coats, preparation, curing, clear coat,
temp control, etc.)

Hello John. There are no accepted standards. But, most modern paint systems
require a series of very important steps to be accomplished in a total paint
job. As an example, check out a local shop that is a "Pittsburg Shop"--that
means they will do their best paint jobs using the details of prep and
multi-coat that is required to get a Pittsbury Paint warranty. There are surely
other such systems. This will put you on the right path.

What kind of paint do you use ? (right answer Glasurit, Herberts or Sikkens)
Clear coat (RA 3 coats)
Do you have a downdraft booth (RA yes)
How do you prep the car (Pull everything off it. If they say "mask", pass).
