If does not sound OK - tell us what is wrong - that will suggest the
problem and fix.

Notice that their flat rate repair fee for a studio mic is $85
Then contemplate this:

** A very clear case of familiarity breading contempt - then and as a
result alarmingly low market sale prices !!!
Speaking as someone who repairs mics (among many other fabulous audio
devices ) for a living the chances are good that Mr Axt's Shure 58 mic is
not in fact faulty.
We await with baited breath his reply to my queries.
Have a nagila - have two nagilas ........

Actually, the SM58 classifies as a wired mic, 55USD service cost, not
the 85USD previously mentioned. Your mic will be guaranteed to pass the
same testing a new mic passes before it leaves their hands. If there is
nothing wrong with your mic, they will send it back to you free of
charge. More often than not, they will simply send you a brand new mic
for your 55USD, a much better deal than Mr. Allison's internet finds.
FWIW, I am not a dealer of any audio equipment, nor do I hold any
interest in Shure Bros., INC. I am simply a microphone consumer who has
had numerous dealings with Shure, and they have met or exceeded my
expectations every single time. IME, Shure has the best service
department in this industry, many of the other manufacturers could stand
to take some notes.

I was wondering about this myself. The headband on my SM10a broke and I
called about service. I was also quoted the $55. service charge/
replacement. I thought that I had misunderstood.

For those brave souls out there, mike cartridges are available as a service
part. A SM58 is a R59 cart. A beta 58a is a R176.
Whether its cost effective is another matter.

Arny,
Do you work for a competing mic company?
The repair charge is $55 for an SM58, not $85 thats for condensors.
David,
FYI. Every time I have sent a mic to Shure for "repair" (I have sent a
Beta 58 and an SM58) they have sent me back a brand new one, in the
box with bag, clip and cord wrap. The turnaround time is so quick
that I know they just drop it in the mail the day they get my return.
The rate used to be $40, but it is still a good deal on an SM58 at
$55. I'd say it's a great deal on a beta 58 (which retails well over
$100). I can't see why you'd spend $88 to get what you can get for
$55.

** The "internet finds" were posted by Arny Krueger - not me.

I stand corrected. In my defense, your post showed the first few lines
of Arny's message as quoted text, but the "internet finds" as new text,
hence, my confusion.
Ralph
** My post actually shows the OP's text as quoted - then Arny's reply
clean and my bit added with the usual ** in front.

Good advice. I'm going to do it. Thanks!
DA
And this is why it was confusing. Unless someone knows your particular
style of posting they have no way to quickly and easily differentiate
between quoted material and your own additions. The "standard" quoting
method (as above) clearly shows who said what. To each his own, I guess.
I know, I know... Using the word "standard" in a discussion about usenet is
oxymoronic at best.

Not at all.

So I see. Just a clerical error on my part. In my defense, let me say that I
posted a link that would disclose my error.
