Hey guys,

I have had an EMU 0404 for a while now and suddenly the MIDI in and
out has stopped working.

I use sonar as my recording software and when i open it a midi icon
appears in the taskbar with a picture of a keyboard with 2 things that
flash. When some is going in (like pressing a key on a musical
keyboard) one flash, and when something is being sent to the midi
controller the other flashes. Neither flash when i do anything with
the midi keyboard.

I have ticked EMU 0404 in the in and output of the MIDI Devices menu
in sonar. I can hear MIDI sounds, just can't enter them via a MIDI
controller.

I have also reinstalled the EMU 0404 program and Sonar and i still
have this problem. My cables are going to the correct in and out.

Can anyone help?

Thanks
Chris

I am not familiar with your soundcard/I/F box but I have had to debug a few
midi problems in the past. One important thing to note is that midi devices
have address information so that each device can respond to their individual
midi commands.

You said "Neither flash when i do anything with the midi keyboard." Fair
enough. Try sending midi from your software package. The midi output light
on the screen should flash even if you do not hear anything. Verify that it
does. The other light should show activity when receiving from the keyboard
address. Verify that when you set up the keyboard in the midi that you
selected the proper address information. Make sure that the keyboard has
the proper address as well.

If, when you send from your software you hear nothing then it could be
simply that the keyboard addy is set up wrong in the software. Bascially, a
bad patch setting. If you have a scope and can peel back the backshell of
the midi connector you can look for activity as well. It is a serial type
interface like RS-232 but uses a current loop style of electrical
connection.

good luck,
Sax
