** I hear a strong, continuous backing track with the DJs adding an
occasional squeak or fart.

WTF is your point ??

When I work with a DJ, I insert MAJOR hard compression/limiting to the
signals they send me. Same with rappers. Many now use iPods. I've some
interesting situations.

One of them was the iPod signal sent the input meters off the scale, but
the apparent audio signal seemed to be within reason. I can only assume
that there was an ultrasonic, subsonic or DC content that the input
meters saw, but the sound system protection filtered out.

Another was a rap act which used an iPod. At a certain point in one
track, the music completely stopped. The rappers re-started the the iPod
track, with the same result .... a few times. Then I noticed that my
dbx-1066 went into infinite compression at that point in the track. I'm
still not sure what the problem was, but after I turned down the input
gain of the console by 30dbu, the track played without interruption.

Actually there are 4 DJ's and 5 decks. The middle one is providing the
"backing" track.

Your "occasional squeak or fart" comment is obviously complete bollocks to
anyone with eyesight, ears, and a brain.

Gareth.

I've downloaded tracks(don't even ASK from where!) that when loaded into a music editor have spikes in them so brief as to be inaudible, yet resulted in my having to apply 10-20dB negative gain to the tracks to get them out of clipping range. LOL! Once I removed these transients the tracks were quite usable, and I was able to gain them back up to -5 to -10.

Perhaps these are what your system encountered from that iPod feed. Either that or it was a Touch that the DJ forgot to turn off all the alert sounds. LMAO!
