Oh, *sure* they can. I saw Indiana governor Mitch Daniels on the
Colbert Report tonight, the guy who had run the Office of Management
and Budget during Dubya's depredations*cough*administration. When
Colbert tried to get him to answer as to what happened to the surplus
Dubya inherited from Clinton, Daniels tried to shuck-and-jive about
how the "dot com bubble burst," and it would have meant trouble for
*any* administration. No mention of starting two land wars in Asia
while simultaneously butchering the tax rates and engineering a giant
give-away to Big Pharma with Medicare Part D (unfunded). Oh, no.
Aaaaaallllllllllll that surplus went away because the dot-com bubble
burst. Um-hm.
