I confess to being somewhat of a bigot.I don't believe in racial superiority, but I do believe in the superiority of certain cultures.

Russian is best
Serbian is #2
American is #3

Have you been drinking? :-)

Interesting for such a right-winger to like the Russian culture.

When I was in Novosibirsk, although my colleagues there were friendly
enough, you did not want to venture from the beaten track. You would
get, pardon my French, fucked up.

We were escorted everywhere by an couple of giant ex-Russian army
bodyguards. They mirrored us everywhere as well as driving us around.

Interestingly enough when there was traffic they just used to pull over
onto the sidewalk and drive along that. Not sure of the legality! Or
if they had police connections that would let them off.

It's a hard-hard place.

Interesting story, I was back in my hotel room after a night drinking
and I heard the phones ringing in sequence up my corridor, one room at a
time until finally my phone rings, I say:

"Hello?"

And I hear what sounds like:

"You have zex?"

Which the lady keeps repeating. I knew what I thought they were trying
to say but naaah, they couldn't mean that, so I just said:

"Sorry I don't understand you"

And hung up.

Ten minutes later there was a knock on my door, I answered it and there
were two young 20 something blondes in lingerie, who delivered in
unison:

"You have zex?"

Why is it you Brits see everything in such oversimplified terms?
You and that clod Christoper Lee both do it.
Russia has existed since the year 650.It was only Communist for 70 of those years.

So you don't mind the way they treated your ancestors (mine, too)?
You know, nice friendly little pogroms, being forced to live in
enclosed areas, not being allowed to go to university, those kind
of things? Or, are you a secret Communist?

Well that was well spotted by it's not oversimplification.

It's dry humour. I know from living here for 7 years that you Americans
have some trouble with it, although people that know me get it now.

It's delivered (in person) without any sarcastic voice, with a straight
face.

Written it's a lot more hard to discern. Sometimes people go for
sarcasm instead possibly indicated by a "!" if it's not obvious.

Although I don't really consider myself British personally. Along with
Russia the UK is on my "don't bother visiting" advisory.

I will say though Communism left a big scar on the culture in Russian
and Eastern Europe. One that will take a few generations to clear out.

Well, the thing was, we were the only car doing it!

Yep, that's what you call full service.

1.Not all Russians were anti-semites. Most of the anti-semitism in the Old Russian Empire and the USSR took place in the Ukraine in rural areas. There was very little in big cities like Moscow and Leningrad.A Jewish friend of mine applied to a university in Moscow and was accepted instantly.

2.The issue is culture, not prejudice by people

3. The first Christian church to publicly condemn anti-semitism was the Russian
Orthodox Church and that was back in the 16th century.

4.The current Prime Minister, Putin, has stated publicly that "antisemitism must be stamped out".

5. Russia and Israel have had friendly relations for 20 years.

Not a bad recording. A little monotonous, though.
