We were talking about the Earth's orbit, and Hovind said _that_ was a
perfect sphere.

It's not a sphere and not even a circle, but as the earlier poster
said, it's an ellipse.

It's the axial tilt that causes winter - It's not just the shorter
days, but also Lambert's cosine law: a beam a metre square strikes the
Earth at an angle, to illuminate or heat an area proportional to the
cosine of that angle. The lower the sun, the larger the area it needs
to illuminate with the same amount of energy.

Inconsistency noted.
A sphere is a 3-dimensional object, whereas an oval is a 2-dimensional
object.
The Earth is an ellipsoid.

When it's summer in the Northern hemisphere, it is winter in the
Southern hemisphere, and vice-versa.

You need to be more specific. Which of those two possible options are
you referring to?

Bwahahaha! An elipsoid is also a two dimensional object, moron.
Try again, Calvin.

The Earth's an oblate spheroid.

Actually, an ellipsoid has three dimensions, but it is symmetrical about
a long axis, like a football.  A spheroid is symmetrical about a short
axis, like a tomato.

You can only make empty and, most of the time, false accusations.

But you never can finish explaining what you mean to say.

Anybody can do the first one.

The second one is a little bit harder.

It's the angle of insolation that determines the seasons, not
whether the planet is approaching perigee or apogee.

Winter Solstice only roughly equates to perigee because the people who
marked the solstice lived in the Northern hemisphere. Geography decided
the issue. :)
