In general, the central US, particularly the south-central US. Texas,
Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Mississippi are good examples of
Bible Belt states.

I think you could say it's all the places bounded by Virginia, Florida,
Oklahoma and Texas. I'd add Utah, but that's in a different league
altogether...

Basically, it consists of the thirteen southern states of the old rebel
confederacy.

Isn't Missouri included as well?

Georgia, N/S Carolina, Tennessee
And don't forget Kentucky. The Bible Belt extends as far north as the
Southeast Christian Church in Louisville (known to the locals as Six Flags
Over Jesus).

Are you therefore saying that those large
fundamentalist sections in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas,
and elsewhere are not considered Bible Belt?

They are the Bible suspenders.

In my opinion "the Bible Belt" is more a state of mind than a specific
geographic location. Looking at a map would anyone call my home state of
Pennsylvania "bible belt?" Most likely no, however outside of the cities I can
tell you from personal experience it is. There is a joke to that effect.
Question: what do you call that area between Philly and Pittsburgh? Answer:
Alabama.
You could also add S.E. Ohio. I think think the formula is 100 jobs lost = 1
new church.

Why limit it to SE Ohio? I lived for some time in western, central OH
(around Dayton/Springfield) and with the exception of Yellow
Springs/Antioch College the entire place reeked of fundamentalist
Christianity.
One of the main schools of the GARBC (General Association of Regular
Baptist Churches), Cedarville University, is located in the area.
