All men have some knowledge of God. That is, they have the conviction
that there is a Being on whom they are dependent, and to whom they are
responsible. What is the source of this conviction? In other words, what
is the origin of the idea of God?

If this knowledge is innate as you claim, why would it only be "some"
knowledge and not "all"?

Why would so many have widely differing knowledge to the point that
there have been thousands of different groups following thousands of
different gods?

Why would these groups end up, all too often, in bloody conflict,
which on occasion has led to genocide?

It originates in the way the human brain has evolved. Like all products of evolution it's full of compromises and features that have been re-tasked.

One of the most notable features of the intuitive "System 1" part of the human mind is it's innate tendency to ascribe conscious agency to events that have none.

I call bullshit. I have no such conviction, nor do any of my atheist
friends. If you don't have the balls to be a grown-up, that's fine and
dandy, but don't project your perpetual childishness onto anyone else.

There is an innate knowledge of God, but not in the
intellect. I would therefore call it a 'contact' with God,
rather than intellectual knowledge. You can contact
God only at the fount or source of your life, which is
in the heart, particularly the seat of love in the heart,
and not in the intellect. This contact does not intrude
into the free will, and has to be actually sought by the
free will, after which it can become evidence for God's
existence for the individual person, which, of course,
cannot be made public evidence for everyone. Which
is the true communication (revelation) of God to
humanity in general is something individuals have to
find for themselves.

(Don't bother trying to suppose that individual evidence
is ALWAYS just an individual fantasy. That itself is
just a fantasised assumption, since you cannot make
a generalisation about what you cannot see)

It's an honor to labeled as a "Troll" on a God-less newsgroup populated

Most theists, in my real life experience, are pretty reasonable folks,
who live and let live. That said, I live in New York, where bringing
up religion at all without being asked would typically be met with
stares of amazement at the rudeness of the person who did so. I
understand that things are a bit different the farther south from me
one travels.

That said, most of the theists who post here are so fucking batshit
crazy, and so invincibly ignorant, that Michelle Bachman and Pat
Robertson would likely disavow any connection to them, and that is
saying quite a lot. It takes a special breed of stupidity^H^H^H^H
innocence (akin to that of a five-year-old trying to convince a
grown-up that Santa is real) to think they can ever accomplish
anything here besides wasting everyone's time.

That's good. All nice and buttoned-up. Guarded and restrained. Avoiding
being decisive, you remain equivocal and obscure. Definitely not
willing to make a commitment that would establish a standpoint, or, God
forbid, a belief.

You are the quintessential Natheist. The Poster Boy of Natheism.

Erm.. most people these days know that the heart is a sophisticated pump.

But yes, it's not intellectual. It's what students of the mind call "System 1" thinking, as opposed to effortfull, deliberative thinking which is called "System 2".

System 1 is fast, effortless and very approximate. It's not interested in truth, but in survival.

It's the way animals think.

Actually, lil' pup, given that decade-old
anthropological and linguistic findings about the
Piraha stand in direct contradiction to your
unsubstantiated, cause-the-Bible-tells-me-so "All men
have have some knowledge of God", then I say that my
response was clearly committal.

But since you find this somehow "obscure" (do you ever
read anything not to do with your religious mania?
seriously?) then let me be less "opaque": the Piraha
(to pick just a single, rather famous example) do not.

And thus you're wrong.

Decisive enough for you?

Good.

Bye now.

Don't worry about it. I really wasn't expecting you to "get it" anyway.

So, I guess I can assume then that "Seth lePod" and "nature bats last"
are two nyms from one and the same person. I'm just wondering, which
one is the sockpuppet? Or, maybe you're both sockpuppets of the same
unnamed puppet-master? Now it's getting interesting, yes?

But, here again, none of that matters. The only place I was wrong was
expecting any of you to understand what the word "innate" means. I'll
give you a hint. It doesn't have anything at all to do with the words
"extrinsic, acquired, or learned".

Good luck. You're going to need it.

The idea of god was born out of man's ignorance.

The con-man of the past realized that they could use the simple man's ignorance and fears to gain power over them. So they invented gods that were angry and needed appeasing.
Over time the con-men evolved the idea into sects and evolved into religions.
They experimented and found all sorts of ways to fool people into believing their lies. That is why there have been so many religions in the history of humanity. The con-men became priests, saints, son of gods, gods, etc. assuming the role that allowed them more power over the masses of ignorant people.

Even now the world is full of con-men. They may even think of themselves as intelligent, clever, shrewd, cunning, etc. They may get foolish people to give them money and live without having to work, some may become rich. But they are just liars. What is the worth of their life? When they reach the end of their life, what have they achieved? Only spreading lies, and stealing from fools. Is that a life worth living?

As far as humanity is concerned, con-men are a cancer and a pestilence. Con-men are just parasites wasting precious energies that could be used for the progress of humanity instead.
It would be in the interests of humanity to extirpate the con-men from society.

>That's kind of weird, dude.

We all have to do things we do not like doing from time to
time. Reading and responding Ramsey's your tripe is one such service
to truth and our community.

Everything he says will and should be be scrutinised
and then challenged as appropriate. The religious must
learn that they can no longer assert their wannahave truths
unquestioned any more and expect silent obedience
in responce.

He may attempt to bully belittle and intimidate people
into silence and of course encourage the killfile so
he is free to assert away unchallenged but we are
getting wise to his tricks and should not be put off.

Everytime he tries to bully somebody, everytime he
tries to intimidate people and everytime he tries to
belittle them into silence or tangle them up in
acusations of lies and 'you seem to be saying's he
shows just what sort of person he is and how shallow
and false what he advocates is
