Why do you believe that YOUR God is the real one and all the others
are fakes?
What objective verifiable evidence do you have that proves or substantiates
that your God is a REAL God and not just a product of peoples imaginations
and false claims?
If there is a REAL God, why does he not directly substantiate his
authenticity
from his Heaven and smite all the false Gods?
Here are over one thousand God beliefs;

Most people believe the religion of their parents. It's the way they
were brought up. If a group of parents placed a block of wood on the
table and told their children that it was God and that because of it
they are enjoying the lifestyle that they do, the children would grow
up believing it and another religion would be born. Then we'd have even
another group: Atheism vs the Block of Wood.
At the same time, if these people were told that they were wrong and
the real God is this mysterious 3 in 1 Godhead who lives in the sky
and, if you don't do what he says, will send you to hell where you will
burn forever without end, they would probably laugh and say, "You've
got to be kidding! My block of wood makes a lot more sense than that.
And look, it's real too."
<snip extensive list>
In the Babylon 5 episode "The Parliament of Dreams" the station was
hosting a festival celebrating religious diversity and each alien race
had to give some kind of demonstration of their planet's major
religion. When it was the humans' turn at the end of the episode, the
Captain brought the ambassadors into a room where he introduced a man
and announced him to be a Roman Catholic. He then introduced the next
man and told the ambassadors that he was an Atheist. The next man was a
Zen Buddhist. The camera pulls back and we see that the the line
continues for dozens and dozens more people, and continues pulling past
them as it fades to black.
By the way, the creator of Babylon 5, J.M. Straczynski, is an atheist.

I believe Nature is God because Nature exists.
Since Nature is everywhere (I include human beings as part of Nature)
that makes me a Pantheist.
There are different kinds of Pantheism. Eg.
The Universal Pantheist Society

The World Pantheist Movement

Some Christians have similar views. Eg

- anything.

That's a lot of work. Let's just start with the one you think is true.
By the scripture I snipped, it seems to be the Abrahamic god, Yahweh.
Yahweh created the universe - he is all-powerful.
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
- John 3:16
Yaweh is therefore both all-powerful and all-loving.
Would you agree there is evil in the world? Regardless of free will, an
all-powerful god could stop evil. And an all-loving god would want to.
Therefore, Yahweh, as defined in the bible (His word) does not exist.
Good enough for me.
Your logic is pathic. If you can't prove something does not exist it must
exist!?
I can't prove Santa Claus does not exist. Does that mean he is real???

Bullshit. There is zero reason to treat yours any differently than any
of the others.

Oh, but there is. The Abrahamic god, as Uncle Vic points out, CAN'T
exist. Some gods aren't defined as impossible, so the impossible ones
should be treated differently - they should be eliminated from
consideration immediately.

You confess that you don't know which is the real God,given so many
false religion;and at the same time, you feel that the Christian belief
is wrong.
So you have eliminated one, then now go and eliminate another one till
you come to the one which you will find reasonable?

OK point made. Now go ahead and prove it
I suppose it never occurs to you that had you the misfortune to have been
orphaned at age two and then been put up for adoption. And had you been
adopted by a Hindu family, you would now be praying to a god that has the
body of a woman and the head of an elephant

I was born and raised in Rhode Island founded
by Roger Williams with religious liberty
for all. Are you against religious freedom?
Jim
Roger Williams, Founder of Rhode Island, Arrived in Boston
February 5, 1631
What is your religion or spiritual belief? In the U.S., we can take it
for granted that people are free to follow any belief they wish.
Elsewhere, this often isn't the case.
During the 17th century, people left England to escape religious
persecution. Many colonists came to America to be able to freely
practice their religions. Roger Williams was a defender of religious
liberty who arrived in Boston on February 5, 1631.
Ordained to the ministry in the Church of England, Williams discovered
Puritanism, a reform movement that developed within the Church of
England, during his first parish duty. He converted. Soon after, he was
asked to be minister in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Leaving behind
the religious intolerance under England's King Charles I, he and his
wife journeyed across the ocean to join the "American Experiment" in
Boston in 1631. At first, Williams just wanted to reform the Church of
England; soon, he sought separation completely.
Many of Williams's parishioners did not agree with his idea to separate
from the Church of England. He then became minister in Salem. There,
his ideas also proved too radical. He went to Plymouth but again fell
into disfavor. Williams insisted that land must be purchased from the
Indians, rather than taken from them forcefully, in order to claim
title to it. He again went to Salem and was eventually put on trial in
1635 for his views. His sentence was banishment. Williams then
purchased land from the Narragansett Indians and established the
settlement of Providence, Rhode Island.
Williams founded the colony of Rhode Island based upon principles of
complete religious toleration, separation of church and state, and
political democracy (values that the U.S. would later be founded upon).
It became a refuge for people persecuted for their religious beliefs.
Anabaptists, Quakers, and Jews settled in Rhode Island. After forming
the first Baptist church in America, Williams left it to seek
spirituality in different ways. He stopped preaching to his friends,
the Indians, when he realized that their form of worship also fell
under his principle of religious freedom. He declared, "forced worship
stinks in God's nostrils." Williams's ideas were radical at the time,
but can you imagine living in a place without religious freedom now?

I do sense some anger in his replies, in a knee-jerk sort of way.
Perhaps that is due to some insecurity on his part. I used to be the
same way, but I learned to walk away from the computer for a while if a
post enraged me, compose myself, and return to present a civil argument.
Christianity is indeed the religion we atheists attack most frequently,
mostly because of the proselytization factor, and the automatic
immorality they project on us simply because we don't believe in their
god(s).
> And yes, I have had this conversation
> before - along with the one where Bill's defenders (he tends to offer
> very few replies to responses to his posts) claim they're only

Bill is one of the few atheists posting here these days that starts
threads with the intent to enrage the Christians posting to the Christian
groups. Then he crossposts them to alt.atheism in order to start flame
wars. He is, by definition, a troll in this respect, although his
intention seems to be to make them think about their beliefs, which in
many cases causes people to lose their faith. And he enlists some of us

I've dubbed him an "Evangelical Atheist", which is far from the attitude
of your mainstream unbeliever. Most of us don't care what others
believe, we only take action when the proselytizers jam their beliefs
into our faces. Bill is one of the few who, like Dawkins or Sam Harris,
are trying to get these accidentally modern humans to face reality in the
light of recent scientific discovery - mostly the discoveries that
fundamentalist Christians refuse to "believe" since they contradict their
religious beliefs.

Oooo, thanks. I enjoy arguments, until they get nasty...
Atheism is not a dogma, nor is it a political system. Atheists do not
believe in a "god" or "gods". That's it. End of story. Tying atheism
with communism is disingenuous, at best.

Why? Are you looking for something to worship?
If you are then I would steer well away from real gods - they tend to
be real sons-of-bitches* - the imaginary ones can be whateber you need
them to be and they dont ever let you down if you dont expect too much
from them.
Cheers, Mark.
* For example Caligula - real gods tend to be "mad, bad and dangerous
to know".
Thats an extremely bad reason to believe nature is God.
In my humble opinion of course.
Dust motes manage the trivial feat of existence - that dosent seem a
very good reason to belive in the divinity of dust motes.
I think deification of anything is universally a bad idea - but if you
insist in believing in a god I would say the very best are the ones
that DO NOT actually exist.
They can't actually let you down - you can merely have over ambitious
expectations of them.
Cheers, Mark.
Still weaving and dodging trying to avoid the issue. What is you objective
verifiable
evidence that your god or any other god actually exists. Your babble is not
evidence.

But the rock crowd is real, screaming my name, screaming for more...the
sweat pours, and I mean pours, from my weary body, and I don't know
where I get the strength to even step down from the stage, through the
crowd, up the stairs into the musicians area, there's maybe a hundred
and fifty people there, but it would make no difference if it was a
hundred thousand. To hear the words I wrote sung back to me, to hear
the crowd cheer when the main riff from Burn It kicks in, to see them,
flying around, arms and legs flailing, bodies bouncing into eachother.
It's real. It's life.

I'd bet a few bucks that some, if not most of them, went to school and
learned the meaning of the word and concept of "god" and "gods". And if
they don't believe in them, they are atheists.

I did not deny that atheism was part of communism. There has been
atheists ever since "gods" were invented, and forcing disbelief in them
is as stupid as forcing belief.

Maybe. It does not even matter. But I'm curious : I'd like to see your
evidence for the non existence of Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy. Or
are you just "agnostic" about them?

That would be agnostics. Atheism has nothing to do with whether there
are gods or not.

But stating that Communism is atheism is as stupid as saying that
Communism is male chauvinism because there were male chauvinists in
the government of the USSR.

Sure it is, but atheism is "I don't believe", not "there are none".
Claiming that atheism is the latter, not the former, is just plain
Christianity - also known by sane people as lying.

" What is your religion or spiritual belief? In the U.S., we can
take
it for granted that people are free to follow any belief they wish.
He declared, "forced worship
stinks in God's nostrils." Williams's ideas were radical at the time,
but can you imagine living in a place without religious freedom now?"

More confirmation that Dan is both a liar and an idiot.
He was a member in good faith of a religion that had Jesus Christ as
its divinity.
He simply ordered what both Protestant and Catholic church fathers had
written about the Jews - and more importantly his good Christian
followers who carried it out accepted hs Christian motivation and
justification.

Well he was following the anti semitic ideas common to both protestant and

the Jews that occured over history and the writing of Martin Luther to see
that.

The "god" I refer to when posting to theists is :
"the one Supreme Being, the creator and ruler of the universe."
Number 1 in :
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/god
Other definitions may apply depending on context, but it's basically
just a concept.

When did the English language, for example, acquired the word for
"god"? (!)

No confusion there, Frank. For me, they're all concepts, unless
evidence proves otherwise, which, in all history, it never did. (FYI,
the "bible" does not count as evidence.)

Then you also know that this "jesus" guy probably never existed. And if
he did, and was inspired by your "abstract" "god", then he'd be just
another prophet/philosopher. There would be no need for worship, he'd
be just a somewhat "cool" guy with a few nice paraboles (and a number
of improbable "miracles"...)

Boy, you are dense. The point is religionists often think their
particular imaginary father figure is the one and only forever and ever.
History has shown the fallacy of this thinking time and again, but that
simple fact seems to elude the sheep. Just another example of willful
ignorance, common to all religions.

The longer I live the longer the list of religious banality grows.
This applies to atheists and religionists
at least those that are prepared to think instead of dream.
Nature tells man to consult reason, and to take it for his guide: religion
teaches him that his reason is corrupted, that it is only a treacherous
guide, given by a deceitful God to lead his creatures astray. Nature tells
man to enlighten himself, to search after truth, to instruct himself in his
duties: religion enjoins him to examine nothing, to remain in ignorance,
to fear truth.
[Paul-Henri Thiry, Baron d'Holbach (1723-1789)]
"There are two things in the world that can never
get together- religion & common sense."

I wouldn't bother, artists are often atheists.
All you and I have is a freak brain that resulted from billions of years of
evolution,
rather like the giraffe got a long neck and the elephant got a long nose.
With this brain homo sapiens dreams up gods by the thousands and nuclear
bombs.
[or did a 'god' approve of the latter?]
you see a few lines of basic logic and common sense outdoes the longest
diatribe attempting to prove something that would be eternally simple to
prove

walking on water. easy isn't it?

You know so much about posters here by just reading a few words?
Which you then use to be nasty !
Who tells you all this stuff? Your god?
Or is it simply your imagination which is being fed by extreme frustration ?

Very well said.
I am increasingly reluctant about calling myself "atheist" these days
because of people like Bill and others like him that I do not want to
associate myself with.
I now prefer the term godless.
I dont really care about the *existence* of gods - one way or another.

Well for starters it expect you to swallow stuff like this:
The universe revolves around the earth.
Stars are pinpricks in the heavens.
The world is flat (and on pillars)
Bats are a kind of bird.
Rabbits chew their cud.
There is enough water to flood the entire planet
Women were created from a man's rib
Rainbows are a promise from God

none - they are all man made myths

could be any god. Most of them were given wide powers of creation, most had a heaven and
a hell
but it makes no difference, all are man made.

well there were a few female gods in Egypt way back before the daddy of Jesus was dreamed
up.
Actually not sure if your god is a he, a she, black or white or brown.
One thing i am sure of though - you haven't seen 'IT'

I agree, we are al different. Psychology uses the Bell Curve to measure human traits and
those 'really' appreciating arts will be on one skirt of the bell and those who cannot
stand it on the opposite one.
give you one thing about humanity, we are a mixed up bunch

So you do not subscribe to the theory we are god's children made by 'Him' then?
then what are we arguing about. I prefer laughter to argument any day

so it seems. you have been leading me a merry dance.
always happy to oblige. [can you do the Samba?]

Politicians get the same demand to put up or shut up. And they try to
weasel out as well.
