Camille Paglia interviewed Stern in the Advocate in promotion of his book
Miss America. Paglia asked "How do you feel about religion and politics?"
Stern responded "I'm sickened by all religions. Religion has divided
people. I don't think there's any difference between the pope wearing a
large hat and parading around with a smoking purse and an African painting
his face white and praying to a rock."

How did the African rock worshippers take it?

Yeah. And doesn't he have the cutest burps? Nobody in my 9th grade
class could burp as cute as that. He sounds like a bull-frog with
indigestion. You can almost smell the onions and half digested
anchovies - and feel the spray - when he cuts loose on the air for
millions of his adoring fans.

I keep listening hoping he will pass wind on the air, but he hasn't
yet. Maybe he will do it on TeeVee some time. And maybe if we started
a big letter-writing campaign, maybe we could get him to to an armpit
squelch on stage, too. That would just be so outasight!
