And once again "J" idiotically claims that pregnant women are being
snatched off the streets and forced to have abortions they don't want.

I've never heard of random forced abortions actually happening. Have
you seen any news articles about it? If so, I'd love to read it
because the usual conspiracy theories are getting old.

Oh, as we've seen, most "advances"in technology cause a lot of
"collateral damage" and then $ makes it impossible to change.
The big problem, overpopulation, causes all the oithers. But it's too
unPC to even discuss that topic.

Sure there are. They're called Spontaneous Abortions, aka
miscarriages. The christian god aborts around 25% of all
pregnancies. This monster is the most prolific abortionist by far.
And what makes it a monster is that most of the women who suffer
miscarriages would have wanted the baby to be born.

Good thing this horrible god doesn't really exist, and the high
miscarriage rate is just a fact of life.

What I posted was that Jason's cite clearly stated the exact opposite
of what he was claiming. He has a bad habit of doing that. In fact
he does it so often, one would think he is intentionally sabotaging
his own point to attract ridicule.

If the information in the link is accurate, the component parts of the
batteries are valuable and salvageable. I don't know much on that
topic, so I am not offering an opinion.

All I know is that most "recyclables" end up in landfill! Recycling
some stuff, like E-waste, is dirty and dangerous. All the TVs that
got dumped when Congress sold most of the public airways to private
companies, so we have to pay them for what was ours, was astounding.
And all those new tvs don't last as long as CRTs and will be
dumped ... you know how they banned incandescent light bulbs in
California and you have to buy those fluorescent tubes ..that contain
mercury ... what a tradeoff

Thanks for an excellent post. You are correct about the mercury in the new
type of light bulbs. Most people don't seem to know that breathing in
mercury vapor is toxic to the lungs.

As I said, I haven't studied the science of recovering hybrid
batteries, but your CRT based TVs analogy seems to be an apples to
oranges comparison.

My point REALLY was that Jason TRIED to claim that these batteries
would clog up landfills, and used a link as a cite which was
unambiguous in stating that they would not.

It's what Jason does.

There's a pinpoint-sized droplet of Hg in the tube. Burning coal
releases far more, so the CFL is cleaner.

The ballast half of a CFL is an electronics tinkerer's gold mine,
containing about $10 worth of high voltage capacitors, inductors,
and TO220 package power transistors.

IF the info is accurate. Mighty big "if" there. and as we've seen
with E waste, it ends up in toxic heaps in third world nations and
those who do the actual work are put in a great deal of danger, and
get very little pay for such dangerous work.

It's very clear that even easily recyclables, like cans, aren't
recycled with any regularity, and still most of the "recyclables" end
up in landfill.

The percentage doesn't have strong convictions. It's just a

An exception to that expectation I am willing to accept is where
someone presents logical or otherwise reasonable arguments that add
meaningful value to the discourse -- in such cases, knowing their real
name isn't necessary (although it may be sought after to an even
greater intensity by those who are genuinely interested).
