For those not immediately recognizing his name, he is the journalist who
wrote the article that ended Gen. Stanley McChrystal's career.

Herrr, what about us non-americans who don't recognize the name "Stanley
McChrystal"?

(Willfully *not* googling this one!)

He was Commander, International Security Assistance Force and Commander,
U.S. Forces Afghanistan. Hastings wrote a magazine article in which he
quoted the General and his staff openly showing disrespect for their
Commander-in-Chief. The drunken antics in uniform were also
unappreciated.

I googled him. I remembered the name because I remembered how Petraeus
became chief, but it didn't strike me as important at the time. I take
it as a given that people in positions of power do weird and crazy
things, so none of those antics surprise me.

But here's the thing.... McChrystal is on several boards. He's got his
own consulting company. He teaches at Yale. It almost seems like the
end of his military career just vaulted him into more echelons of
power.

His car accident sounds a little suspicious..

"A person who witnessed the crash early Tuesday morning said he saw Hastings
speeding down the road in his car when it suddenly jackknifed, slammed into a
tree, and burst into flames."

I really haven't been following duke much. Is he always as much of a
dipshit as he's been lately, or is he plumbing new depths?

The really fun thing about Dork is that he feels compelled to have the

like to think of it as making him a puppet and watching him dance
helplessly on someone else's strings. After all, he dances for his sky

Yep, he just hit the revolving door between government jobs and more
lucrative ones in the private military-industrial complex.

The thought crossed my mind. But I put the suspicion aside for now,
until there's evidence to support it.

I wonder what happened that the witness couldn't come up with a
different word than jackknife. But what can you expected at 4am.
