I know people want revenge right now. But let's first figure out who did this.

I agree. We must change our response so that terrorism does not
advance the goals of these assholes. We must PUNISH any country that
would give safe haven to terrorists and we must exterminate the terrorists
themselves.

My thoughts are with you, with all the kind and colourful Americans
that form the backbone of this ng.
Even from across the Atlantic, the tragedy is very unreal but yet
terribly real. Most of all it hurts. It hurts to hear the number of
possible deaths, it hurts to see the panic on the television, at this
stage, it hurts to see the way how the Americans are dealing with this
horrible event.

No confirmation of that though it seems very likely. Other remote possibilities

Not US forces. CNN reports that Northern forces have attacked the city before
during this civil war and that the weapons being used are not inconsistent with
the attack.

What they deserve for this is to turn all of Kabul into a monument.
Let any country learn that the price of such a cowardly act is the
loss of their entire country. Such cowards don't deserve a country.

Can I second this? I am also shocked and sickened by the events accross the
pond. The image shown repeatedly on CNN of the plane flying straight into
the WTC and exploding will haunt me for a long time, as will that of the
WTC collapsing with who knows how many people inside.
But please don't let horror and anger overcome us. Two wrongs don't make a
right, massive military retaliation will only bring more deaths.
I am now terrified of two things: 1, The ease at which extremeist groups
can cause massive numbers of deaths of innocent people. And 2, What the USA
government's response will be. I will not be suprised if Afganistan and/or
Palistinian settlements are bombed flat (regardless of whether they are
responsible). This will in turn bring more terrorist atrocities...you can
work out the rest.
We must do everything we can to bring the guilty to justice without the
loss of any more innocent lives. The anger and the thirst for revenge
expressed in all these posts is understandable...but it isn't right. For
fucks sake let's not start a holy war of our own.

Giving blood would be the most effective thing to do. I urge all that can to
donate blood now and to continue in the future.
There are only two effective military solutions: Complete precision or
complete annihilation.
Where I work had one. It has been removed.
To do this would require nuclear weaponry. Are you advocating its use?

My grandfather was one of the people who built the twin towers (he was a
welder).
My cousin was on the 105th floor of the first tower hit - above the fire. He
was contacted shortly thereafter, but hasn't been heard from since, and is
officially one of the missing. Several of the people who worked at his
company did make it out, but are in critical condition.
I don't think a monument will be sufficient. I think the buildings must be
rebuilt.
But not until after we take down, to the ground, all groups and supporting
governments responsible for this attack against civilization.

I agree 100%. Sounds like it might happen. Senator Hillary was
apparently talking about exactly that today.
>But not until after we take down, to the ground, all groups and supporting

Also agree 100%.
>Hey, why not execute all Muslims:
Because we're not currently at war with all Muslims. But we ARE most
likely at war with some of them.
>To do this would require nuclear weaponry. Are you advocating its use?
Or a lot of conventional weaponry. I don't advocate using the stream
you drink from as a toilet, and we have to breathe the same air that's
over wherever we bomb.
BTW, the sunset was particularly beautiful this evening, 60 miles east
of what used to be the WTC. And there's a fine powder on the car I
didn't drive today. Some of that ash may be people who used to work
in the WTC towers.
I'm not feeling too kindly toward enemy soldiers at the moment, nor am
I likely to live long enough to change that attitude. I'm breathing
former friends and colleagues. That kind of puts things into a
perspective that maybe people not living around here can't appreciate.
Although maybe some people who spent some time in Uncle Ho's Vacation
Paradise can.
Those who give succor to those trying to kill them aren't what Darwin
would have called 'fit'.
We can do it without nukes. FAE would work, as would massive conventinal
muntions. Not that I'm advocating either, but you're bringing in the
specter of nuclear weapons needlessly.
