I'm sure that if Jesus was actually the son of god, that he would hide
his head in shame at your ignorance.

6. Implications of a Flood

A global flood would have produce evidence contrary to the evidence we
see.

How do you explain the relative ages of mountains? For example, why
weren't the Sierra Nevadas eroded as much as the Appalachians during
the Flood?

Why is there no evidence of a flood in ice core series? Ice cores from
Greenland have been dated back more than 40,000 years by counting
annual layers. [Johnsen et al, 1992,; Alley et al, 1993] A worldwide
flood would be expected to leave a layer of sediments, noticeable
changes in salinity and oxygen isotope ratios, fractures from buoyancy
and thermal stresses, a hiatus in trapped air bubbles, and probably
other evidence. Why doesn't such evidence show up?

How are the polar ice caps even possible? Such a mass of water as the
Flood would have provided sufficient buoyancy to float the polar caps
off their beds and break them up. They wouldn't regrow quickly. In
fact, the Greenland ice cap would not regrow under modern (last 10 ky)
climatic conditions.

Why did the Flood not leave traces on the sea floors? A year long
flood should be recognizable in sea bottom cores by (1) an
uncharacteristic amount of terrestrial detritus, (2) different grain
size distributions in the sediment, (3) a shift in oxygen isotope
ratios (rain has a different isotopic composition from seawater), (4)
a massive extinction, and (n) other characters. Why do none of these
show up?

Why is there no evidence of a flood in tree ring dating? Tree ring
records go back more than 10,000 years, with no evidence of a
catastrophe during that time. [Becker & Kromer, 1993; Becker et al,
1991; Stuiver et

All it "prooves" is plate tectonics.

snip fatuous comment

So fossils of extinct creatures laid down in the Tethys Sea hundreds
of millions of years ago before being raised by tectonic forces from
around 60 million years ago to form the Himalayas prove a flood from
4,300 years ago.

When you find fossil shellfish on a mountain top, there are two
explanations: either the sea was higher, or the mountain was lower.

Nothing new there from the cretinist camp.

In addition to his comments you might try to explain why the

You have no "evidence", only lies about the real evidence. For
starters those "fossils" are encased in ROCK, they are not laying
around loose. Care to explain how they could be fossilized in sucha a
short periods and then encased in rock?

The global flood is a mythical misinterpretation. Noah's
flood was confined to a giant central asian basin which,
at that time, was surrounded by mountains, which enabled
this giant basin to fill up with water to the tops of the
mountains (the himalayas formed one edge of this
basin). It destroyed all life within this basin. Some
separated peoples, outside this region, however, were
not destroyed by the flood - the chinese, the japanese,
black people, and the early egyptians.

It would have been impossible for there to have been
a global flood, since there would have been nowhere
for the water to flow away to, so the flood would never
have been able to subside.

Lies from both these two psychos, noted,

There is no such thing as an evolutionist. However educated and
non-fundamentalist Christians who even in the USA outnumber atheists
by maybe ten to one, accept the facts of evolution.

Calling them "evolutionists" is a dishonest attempt to turn this into
an ideology.

If you are serious about that basin you need to decrease the size of
the mountains to small hills at most.

The conundrum of sea shells on mountain tops disproving evolution was
debunked immediately after it was proposed.

God, who could have produced a flood to reach that high, possibly placed the
sea shells in absurd locations merely to test the faith of his purported
followers.

No, what really happened was Nebuchadnezzar II got pissed off at his
vassal in Jerusalem, killed his sons, poked his eyes out, and deported
50,000 Jews to Babylon. There on the banks of the Euphrates the Jewish
priests and scribes got as bored as travelers on a trans-oceanic flight
and idly picked up a copy of the Mesopotamian version of UTNE Reader,
which had reprinted the 11th Tablet of the Epic of Gilgamesh in the
original cuniform. And they plagiarized that son of a bitch when they
put together the Torah.

snip sanctimonious twaddle

Scarcely. Your stupidity invalidates your entire argument. Please
answer the question posed. How does a floode around 4,300 years ago,
produce 300 million year old fossils IN a mountain? Why did those
inveterate and assiduous record keepers, the ancient Egyptians, not
notice they had 5 miles of water over their heads? They certainly
reported the chaos caused by a drought a few years later.

Yes.
There are flood sagas in every society. Most are based on reality. Of
course they are not global or sent by God.
Most of these sagas are reality based even if somewhat embroidered.

There are so many floods/sagas in the Middle East that the problem is
knowing which one might be Noahs.

The truth probably is that some shepherd put his sheep in a boat in a
local flood around four thousand year ago.

Here's another saga that has proved to be true in almost every detail.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iliad

So don't write these things off out of hand.

Here's a saga about the USA.

And, we give him all the attention he needs because it
keeps him off the streets. Zacky (and all his nyms and

"Your ad hominem attack invalidates your argument, fool." YOU wrote
that.
Pot, kettle - black.

Are you going to answer the questions rather than indulge in
hypocrisy?
Two centuries ago, some very devout Christian men, some of them
Anglican vicars, went out into the British countryside looking for
something they were sure they would find - proof of Noah's Flood. To
their shock and surprise they could not find any! They also
discovered that the Earth is vastly older than anyone at the time
knew. Being men of integrity (you should try it) they realised that
God's word cannot trump His creation and therefore Genesis is not
history but morality tale plus a made up history to "prove" to the
ancient Israelites that they were not just another Canaanite tribe.
Since then nothing has changed.

Probably getting his face rearranged in the bar for being obnoxiously
stupid and in everybody's face.

I had a friend and colleague once, whose personality changed after
radiation treatment on a tumour separated the two hemispheres of his
brain.

He turned into the kind of idiot we see here, but not a religious one.
He became totally impractical and was always telling people about
crackpot ideas for which he just needed their help with the details,
the silliest one being a gravity modulator for antigravity flight. His
understanding of science (in this case physics) was on a par with the
average fundamentalist and based on the popular press "scientists
believe" = well, he believed and he thought he was being scientific.

You don't drop friends because they develop problems, so I kept in
touch - but people would leave the bar when he went for a beer, etc to
avoid him.

Hypatia was a famous mathematician, teacher and writer who
was murdered by a bunch of dirty, ignorant Egyptian Coptic
monks who were incited to do this (they hated that she
taught men) by a high Church leader who used her to get back
at a friend for political reasons. I am proud to borrow her
name and admire her for her knowledge and courage. Thank you
for the opportunity to say this.

The flood created flows of water so massive that
they changed the whole landscape and washed away
all but those mountains that had the greatest internal

He (and you) do an excellent job of teachin people to "except"
religion. Of course I did that way back in the 50s

Now if you mean "accept" that would be a different deal.

Of course sound geological science says this is total nonsense.
You can't just make up stories, with no grounding in geology,
no proof whatever that it happened. Science doesn't work that way.
Imagine you came into court with the above claim. Before you
could even make that claim, you would have to establish to the
satisfaction of the court, that you are qualified in the particular
field to testify. Otherwise what you think isnt' worth spit and
the court would not allow you to testify. After that, you'd have to
present your EVIDENCE to support your claim. We'd be happy
to look at any credible proof you have for this bizarre theory.......

The theists also claim their G*d has ALL the power. They never say why
he gave a lot of it up. Being all-knowing he KNEW what Satan would do
with it. He must have wanted things that way.

It's not possible to believe is something that incoherent.

I'm still waiting on your starting the debate BY POSITNG YOUR FIVE
BEST ITEMS OF EVIDENCE for this god of yours instead of running from
the challenge, but let's change up in this thread for some variety.

Why don't you and I formally debate the Noahic flood right here in
this thread. You argue for it by positng your best five items of
evidence (I assume yoru shells in mountians claim is the first of the
five, so you owe four more) and I'll show you where you're completely
lacking in a decent science education.

Or you can RUN like you evidently are in the other debate thread where
you're *supposed* to be posting your five best items of evidence for a
god.

No, it is not. Hypatia was a brilliant mathematician.

As for your claim about women and math, I am SO glad that I had a father
who expected me to do well in math. I don't remember how old I was
before I learned that girls were supposed to be bad at math. I even did
better on my Math SAT than my Verbal one (727 to 708).

And then there's Danica McKellar (yes, THAT Danica McKeller, Winnie
Cooper from "The Wonder Years"). She graduated summa cum laude from
UCLA's Math Department; she even has a theorem named after her:
Chayes-McKellar-Winn theorem. And she's written several books aimed at
girls to take away their fears of math:

Also I think it is soul not sole.

A sole is the under surface of a person's

It isn't a theory of mine. It is a revelation given to
a seer/prophet of relatively recent times by the
Eternal Father, Who knows what happened. I shall
not, therefore, be engaging in ignorant, human
geological debates about it. But you are free to assess
its credibility according to your own way of understanding
what is true

Don't confuse facts with factoids that are effectively strawman arguments
So let's answer some of those strawman questions
1) Q: "So How does a floode(sic) around 4,300 years ago,
produce 300 million year old fossils IN a mountain?
A: It doesn't
2) Q: "Why did those inveterate and assiduous record keepers, the ancient
Egyptians, not notice they had 5 miles of water over their
heads?"
A: Because clearly there wasn't 5 miles of water over their heads

See how simple that was...
Notice that both those questions were based on the premise that the
great flood occurred about 4300 years ago
Considering that the OT is actually an oral history written down, it's
always funny to have literalists (on either side) try to claim that there is
a CLEARLY DEFINED date associated with it.
But that's just one of those lies that are trotted out with great
regularity.

To misquote Pratchett, "geology is just physics slowed down,
with a couple of trees stuck in it."

"SCIENCE: a way of finding things out and then making them
work. Science explains what is happening around us the whole
time. So does RELIGION, but science is better because it
comes up with more understandable excuses when it's wrong."
