The Elements of Astrological Counsel

or cannot function-don't assume. Here are some basic do's and don'ts in the
interview;
Don'ts
1) Don't stress the client.
2) make evaluative statements, let the client tell you what their values are.
3) If prior to some testing, don't make probing statements that might bias the
query.
4) hostile responses or reassuring responses until you are clear on the
client's perspective.
Do's
1) Make open ended statements, avoid yes/no or good/evil this/that.
2) You may wish to employ verbatim playback or feedback to discern their
perspective.
3) Employ transitional phrases-tolerate silence if the client goes there.
4) Paraphrase or restate to clarify.
5) Employ empathic (not sympathetic) responses when possible.
