I just watched Bill O'Reilly on THE VIEW, promoting his new book KILLING
KENNEDY. I haven't read the book yet, but am curious to know if Volkmar
Schmidt is mentioned in regard to the Walker shooting. He is not referred
to by King in 11/22/63, even though King cites CASE CLOSED and LEGEND as
important sources of information, both of which refer to Schmidt.
Amazingly, even though Schmidt had a lengthy discussion with LHO about
Walker, whom Oswald believed was becoming a threat to the U.S. comparable
to Hitler in Germany in the late 1920s, Schmidt did not even think of
Oswald when he heard the news that someone had taken a shot at Walker. I
learned this in the course of a telephone conversation with Dr. Schmidt (a
geologist and close friend of DeMohrenschildt up to George's death) in the
early 1990s. Keep in mind that the Walker shooting took place less than
two months after the conversation between Schmidt and Oswald. After the
assassination, Schmidt told the FBI that Oswald "appeared to be a violent
person". Schmidt did state on the PBS Oswald documentary that he might
have unintentionally urged Oswald to kill Walker.
Although the O'Reilly interview was quite brief, he did indicate that,
although he concluded that Oswald was the lone assassin, it did not
preclude the possibility of Oswald being urged by others to kill Kennedy.
DeMohrenschildt was mentioned as being an unusual and suspicious associate
of Oswald, given his contrasting background and life style, as well as his
CIA connections.
O'Reilly made one statement that stood out in regard to Oswald's
relationship with Marina, claiming that she had kicked Oswald out of the
house the day before the assassination. No reference is made to the fact
that Marina was living temporarily with Ruth Paine, and that Oswald had
unexpectedly showed up there after work on Nov. 21 and stayed the night,
leaving most of his money behind. - prwhitmey
