I read the "secret JFK memo" and was most impressed...until the very end,
when the writer revealed a spelling problem many English students never
seem to overcome: dealing with the possessive case. President Kennedy
actually said: "Ask not what your country can do for you..." not "Ask not
what you're country can do for you..." On a more serious note, I have
felt for a long time that those behind the assassination wanted LBJ to be
President, and knew that there was only one way for that to happen. Had
they tried using "dirty tricks" against JFK, such as spreading rumours
about his various affairs, or his connections to Giancana, or his use of
illegal drugs, etc., that would have simply resulted in a victory for the
Republican party, possibly headed by Gov. Rockerfeller instead of Sen.
Barry Goldwater. The fact that the assassination took place in Texas
strongly suggests that the group behind the assassination was, in part,
from that state, or at least recognized that it would be easier to carry
out an assassination there. They might also have wanted to leave the
impression that LBJ might have been involved (even if he wasn't), just to
keep him in line, and to encourage him to establish a commission that
would produce a whitewash. - Peter R. Whitmey
