I am seeking a video or dvd of the PBS Frontline documentary "Who Was Lee
Harvey Oswald?"
I think it was produced in 2003, but it is possible it was actually produced
in 1993.
It is unavailable in both video and dvd, but my brief research indicates
that it was once available on at-least an officially released video. I have
tried the PBS shop, Amazon, eBay, and I'm having no luck.
Can somebody direct me to a good JFK assassination
website/blog/forum/research centre where I might best find what I am looking
for?
I am particularly keen to get as much footage as possible of the Nov. 22
Dallas PD midnight press conference where they paraded Oswald in front of a
mob that included Jack Ruby.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank-you.
I have a copy of that show on DVD.
Send me an email for more info.

Hi Billy,
David Von Pien has uploaded a portion of the show to You Tube.
Here is a link to the playlist:

Von Pein's description:

This six-part series includes approximately the last one-third of the
3-hour "Frontline" PBS-TV documentary program, "WHO WAS LEE HARVEY
OSWALD?", which originally aired in 1993.

Unfortunately the video quality is rather mediocre.
I have the show on DVD.

David Von Pein has this show available at You Tube. Part 1 of 6 is at:
It is available from most major libraries too. It was originally
broadcast in Nov. 1993. Note that one of the interviewers, Tony Summers,
who was hired as a consultant, and travelled to the Soviet Union and
elsewhere for the documentary, asked that his name be deleted from the
credits, given the conclusion that Oswald was the lone assassin. I had
been in contact with the head of research in regard to my contact with
Jean Aase, but through a lawyer whom she hired, she demanded $3000 for an
interview, but was turned down. As a result, neither her name nor
Lawrence Meyers, a friend of Ruby, whom she travelled to Dallas with, are
mentioned. I discuss Jean in detail in my article "Creating a Patsy" at
http://mcadams.posc.mu.edu/creatingapatsy.htm,
. . . which you might want to read. I also discuss Curtis Craford at
length (aka Larry Crafard), who worked for Ruby, and whom I also
interviewed. He is not mentioned in the PBS documentary either, nor is
Richard Giesbrecht of Winnipeg, whom I have also written about (all three
aritcles are available at http://www.kenrahn.com/JFK/JFK.html, and one is
available at http://mcadams.posc.mu.edu/home.htm.

Anyway, I can't offer you any help toward finding a physical copy of the
program on VHS or DVD (there's a 3-part listing at Amazon, but nobody's
selling any copies as of this writing)....but I can steer you toward my
6-part YouTube series which features the last one-third (1 hour) of the
three-hour program:
>>> "Unfortunately the video quality [of DVP's YouTube series of the PBS
documentary] is rather mediocre." <<<
Yes, that's true. And I apologize for that. But it's the best I could do
with the multi-generational VHS copy that I possess. (And that's part of
the reason I didn't post the whole 3-hour program, too.)
I dug out my DVD copy of the whole documentary.
The quality is so-so too, but fine for anyone who is just curious to
view the show.
For more info, contact me.
I had forgotten how concerned the KGB became when they discovered
Oswald was not the least interested in Marxism.

Oswald was interested in Marxism, alright, although he was absurdly
unsophisticated about it.
The deal in the USSR was that there was a government approved
activity.
Oswald was interested in Marxism when it was something mavericks and
malcontents did (in the U.S.).
When it was an official government activity, he was uninterested.
That's what is behind the KGB observation.

It's in good quality, yes. But it's not "complete". Whenever an
assassination film appears on screen (e.g., the Zapruder Film or the
Hughes Film, et al), the footage has been cut out by the Frontline
website....which is unfortunate, since the Hughes clips (and examination
of those frames) are quite useful to see.
Hey, I thought we bought the whole damn Zapruder film for $16M. What is
PBS trying to cover up?

Good point, Tony.

Upon further reflection on this.....Since the Sixth Floor Museum
obtained the official copyright for the Z-Film a few years ago,
perhaps that enters into the equation for why PBS won't show it on its
"Frontline" website in the LHO documentary.
The Sixth Floor is very protective of its copyrighted material. Of
course, the Z-Film is floating around many, many other Internet
websites. So whether the Sixth Floor copyright has anything to do with
it or not, I really haven't the foggiest. I'm just guessing.
You say that the Sixth Floor Museum paid the $16M for the Zapruder film?
I thought it was the US government that paid the $16M.

Protective? To the point of cover-up?
>>> "You say that the Sixth Floor Museum paid the $16M for the Zapruder film? I thought it was the US government that paid the $16M." <<<
DVP SAYS:
The U.S. Government forked over the cash to the Zapruder family. But
then the Zapruder family donated the official copyright of the film to
the Sixth Floor Museum in 1999.
Quoting from the Sixth Floor website:
"After being compensated by the U.S. government, the [Zapruder]
family donated copies of the film and color transparencies of each
frame, as well as the film's copyright, to The Sixth Floor Museum at
Dealey Plaza in 1999."

DVP SAYS:
No. Protective to the point of protecting their copyrighted material.
Why is that such a shock to you? Last year, I personally experienced
the "protection" exhibited by Gary Mack and his museum with respect to
some of the assassination films to which the museum holds the
copyrights.
