The plot of this particular film is this: Some men, (about a half dozen or
less) bandits, go into a village where they promptly take over the town and
turn the villagers into their personal servants. The villagers try to repel
these men using their martial arts talents, but the men are armed with pistols,
in which the ammo clip is inserted in front of the trigger guard as opposed to
inside the pistol grip. (german made Mauser Broomhandles, IIRC)

There also was a Chinese knockoff of the Mauser Broomhandle, made in the
1920's-1930's, known as the Shansei:

So, I'm not sure of exactly what type (Shansei or Broomhandle) of pistols were
used in the film, but it DID look like one of those.
Naturally, not even the villages best martial arts fighters can stand a chance
against the men and their guns. The armed men also have quite a few bandoliers
on them in which they carry hundreds of clips of ammo.
The villagers realize that the only way they can take back their town is to get
their hands on at least one of the guns and a bandolier of ammo. They get their
chance when one of the armed men takes one of the beautiful daughters of the
villagers to rape her in a house. While he is doing that, the villagers quietly
and carefully bore a hole into a wall of the house from the outside. Then they
use a long stick, or piece of wire, to succesfully grab one or two of the
bandoliers. Then they try for one of the pistols, but are discovered before
they can get the gun. They run off with their bandolier(s) of ammo.
The bandits assemble the villagers, demanding to know where their stolen
bandolier is, and who stole it, under threat of death, but no one gives out
that info.
The ones who did steal the bandoliers, are in their hiding place, wondering
what the hell they were going to do with all those bullets, but no gun. They
come to realize that they can take the bullets out of their shell casings, and
collect all the gun powder together to make a bomb. This they do, and then look
for their opportunity to use their bomb on the bandits who are still holding
their village hostage, and are more alert ever since their bandolier got
stolen. Finally, one of the villagers, who is forced to work as one of the
bandits servants, grabs the bomb, and jams it directly on top of a flame on the
table where all the bandits were seated, thereby blowing himself up and all the
bandits too. The villagers are now free.
Anyone?

>Sounds like "The Savage Five" with David Chiang, Ti Lung, Chen Kuan Tai,

I'm sure there are bootlegs out there. I'm waiting for Celestial to remaster
the original before I pick up the DVD. One of my favorites!
