thought about how to run the contest b) people have no idea what ascii
is or how to present it c) we could PWN (vini, vidi, vici style) that
contest. I am going to submit but didn't want to hide it from you.

Right, and yes, it is obvious that this is not very organized at all. To
start with, they are not even really requesting ASCII art: "as long
you're just using the letters and symbols on your keyboard" is their
rules for what characters you can use, and it's definitely not
equivalent to "only the printable ASCII set".

I have this vision of a call center staffed by trained ASCII support
staff who can help guide people through setting up a competition.
Like wedding planners only less stressed.

Not surprisingly, the winner of the contest wasn't even ASCII art.

I wasn't able to find any winner anounced on the site. Where did you
find the results? Should I head to my news stand?

I found it by going to the Culture section two days ago, when I heard
the results were out. I was being congratulated "for the exposure."
Eh. Considering I've won numerous ASCII contests and of the two
pieces I submitted one will be published in a book and one was
featured in a movie, that's not much of "exposure." Unless they
publish the pictures in the paper Wired - that would be a nice add to
my "ASCII resume" - though they'd probably completely botch them.
It took me two days to be able to register on the site so that I could
comment, because they had broken the registration. :P

Ah, there it is. Thanks. Looks like they got my piece even though I
got no reply.

Been there, done that. I made a thousand in doing ascii commercially
a while back. I got exposed but what I would really like is another
paying gig. :)
