"Musica universalis (lit. universal music, or music of the spheres) is
an ancient philosophical concept that regards proportions in the
movements of celestial bodies—the Sun, Moon, and planets—as a form of
musica (the Medieval Latin name for music). This 'music' is not
usually thought to be literally audible, but a harmonic and/or
mathematical and/or religious concept. The idea continued to appeal to
thinkers about music until the end of the Renaissance, influencing
scholars of many kinds, including humanists..."
And, bringing it up to the 1990s, a poem where I touch on the concept,
one of the earliest I posted to Usenet:

Sky Song
by Will Dockery
Sky songs written with cloud and light,
and numbers, look that up,
to a point, I see it and the sound echoes off the brick.
Queen of darkness, she's out of sight,
our lady of the earth.
Tall and hot,
travel lightly.
Mispoken, I did not know the details then,
it's real clear to me now.
Into the breath,
ringing down from the sky.
Poems the sky writes on slick paper,
wet ink glistens on the leaves and grass.
She has cartoon red hair,
he is the man with the finger flow,
then they become as one on the floor.
It is clear to me now,
what am I to say on this strange warm night?
I am as a statue.
The moon sings,
my heart rings with a strange new sadness.

What "It". You quoted my poem. MY poem. You wrote "Thanks for
reading and commenting..." Who are you thanking for reading MY poem,
and who commented on it? You sure haven't.

Dream Tears / Will Dockery
It has a nice sound from an earlier time -- I'd say "70s," but only
because that's the time of my youth. L1 is excellent:
Sky songs written with cloud and light,
then L2 is such a change - but in a good way, not boring, sort of
inyerface, insouciant:
and numbers, look that up,
so that gets me hooked.
There's more good lines throughout; my favourites:
> > Poems the sky writes on slick paper,
> > wet ink glistens on the leaves and grass.
I'd cut the "the" in that last line, though, and I'd cut a lot more
words. I'd also say get rid of the end=line punctuation -- at least
for one draft, the ones you miss can go in later.
I'd put this on TBB except for the fact we've agreed on something else
for this April. Maybe in an off month, though, say in summer ...
This works really well, perhaps the best thing you've written this
year; certainly the paragraph on aapc most deserving to be called a
'prose poem' this year. I'd make probably a hundred word changes (some
of which could well be changing things back) -- when you have
something this good, it's worth fussing over. (I know I'm a minority
of one on this group when it comes to revising, but I'll still keep
preaching it. It does not mean the work is bad.)
Why "Karla's Song"? I'd expect all or many of the words were lifted
from something, but from what?
Thanks for the crit, George. I troubled over the duplication of
'quietly' and 'quietness', but I'm satisfied with how the piece turned
out. I think I wrote this a few years ago, but have pulled it out and
tinkered with it from time to time. I always think it's done when I'm
done tinkering, but I still tinker. I named it Karla's song in honor
of Karla Rogers, obviously, because I like her, and wanted to do/say
something nice for her.
Mid-1990s seems like an eternity ago to me, sometimes... certainly in
many ways we can never go back there.
but only

I'll try that, sounds like a good idea.

You did decide on something? I'll go back and look for that post,
which I've missed.

You won't find a post, because I haven't decided yet. It's either
"Dream Tears" or "Red Lipped Stranger", though.
> You won't find a post, because I haven't decided yet. It's either

I've obviously got one of each of those you can use too, if you're
interested. I don't know; maybe that's a bad idea. Wouldn't want to
confuse any casual readers or anything. God forbid many thousands of
people flock to your site, only to be bewildered by what they find
there. Lord knows that doesn't happen now.
Okay, sounds good. The "Embed Code" for "Dream Tears" is:
<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390"
src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gX035Ybafx4" frameborder="0"
allowfullscreen></iframe>
So supposedly you should be able to copy-paste that into your blogsite
& the screen with video should appear on the page. I haven't tried it
on your page, but supposedly it works that way, and does in other
palces.

Perfect. I don't remember where the RLS code is, but presumably it's
the same with only the url changed. I'll do a practice embedding
before the real post goes up (probably right in the middle of the
month again, but I haven't planned that far ahead. I'm way behind this
time.)
Yes, it would be a bad idea, considering that I've already picked out
something better of yours and you've agreed. Though I would substitute
'Karla's Song' if you wanted that on instead.
> Wouldn't want to
> confuse any casual readers or anything.
I do have two poems called 'Portrait' on there now, by different
authors -- and two called 'Death,' both by the same author -- so
that's not a big consideration.
> God forbid many thousands of
> people flock to your site, only to be bewildered by what they find

No one's expressed any bewilderment (even about the two 'Death'
poems), if that's what you mean.
Each number has a link for an "Embed Code" on the individulal page.
There are also a number of Blogsites that the embed can be sent to
directly from the page, but I assume not yours, seems to be Google/
MySpace related companies... I think YouTube /has/ been bought up by
some major player, but I forget or never found out who.
I'll do a practice embedding

I know what you mean, time is flying by this year, here it is almost
midnight & I have people sitting waiting on me to come over and do
some favors... see you soon, I have to run on!
> Yes, it would be a bad idea, considering that I've already picked out

I think I told you before; I have no preference. Do whatever you
want.
> No one's expressed any bewilderment (even about the two 'Death'
> poems), if that's what you mean.
No, it's not, MORON!!
I read "Karla's Song", very good poem!
It's a piece of shit, you dumbass. Fuck, you don't really know
anything about good poetry, do you? Karla's Song is nothing but soft
core porn. If you knew how to read my better pieces, you'd fucking
shit your pants at what you'd find. Piss off, fuckhead.
In my opinion, I thought it was pretty much the best thing I've seen
from you. It had some content, some *character*, which is so lacking
in your usual poetry.
"Do whatever you want" with your verse? Why, thanks. I had the idea
last night that, since you like Will's titles so much, if I publish
"Karla's Song" I should retitle it "Karla Bombs". Thanks for the
permission.
> > No one's expressed any bewilderment (even about the two 'Death'

>
> No, it's not, MORON!!
Oh, well, maybe some day you'll learn to communicate effectively in
writing. At least you're practicing a lot.

You assume authority that isn't yours to take. That's a bad sign.
> Oh, well, maybe some day you'll learn to communicate effectively in
> writing. At least you're practicing a lot.
You apparently need all the practice I can afford to give you.
Does it really relate, though?
Not in the slightest; but did any of your titles that he used relate
to the texts he used them on?
Of course I'm not going to do it -- I just told him I had the "idea"
-- but it's been of value in its way: he got quite offended at the
idea, and decided we should have nothing to do with each other in the
future. Maybe you should try that!
Yeah, or Corey could unsurprisingly be back on here in a few minutes
wanting to "collaborate" with one or both of us sor something... or
not... never can tell what mood that guy might be in.
If you've got something on your mind, spill it.
Don't even think about it. I wouldn't come to Doo-Nanny now if you
begged me, bitch.
I thought you'd already made it clear that you had decided against
coming to Doo-Nanny weeks ago.
I can hardly remember what I had for dinner, much less what I might or
might not have made clear weeks ago, but I'm glad we finally got that
cleared up between us even though it apparently took me right up until
now to recall that I'd made that clear weeks ago, so thanks for
reminding me, Will.
Well if you change your mind, there's still plenty of time, as my new
sig will be promoting:
"Get Ready... countdown to Doo-Nanny: 18 days 20 hours 18 minutes 30
seconds.":
Yes, I'm sure it will be quite a time. Still, I wouldn't come if you
begged me.
Okay...
Okay, good. I just wanted to make that clear. It would take a lot
more than you begging to get me to come down there. You'd really have
to make me want to come, and I don't get the impression that you want
me to come at all. That's very disappointing.
Yes, all clear.
While I'm not so sure that you either understand the concept of Doo-
Nanny or that you'd even enjoy it if you did.
Finally! Thank you. I couldn't agree with you more.
Okay, then we should move on to the next event... Hogbottom in Fort
Mitchell on April 30th, maybe?
I really wish you would move on. Of course I won't be there either,
nor will anybody I know, and probably nobody who reads you here. You
don't make the place sound very attractive or appealing to somebody
like me. I'm sure you'll have fun with your local friends and all,
but it's no wonder your not going anywhere, and your act is so small
time. No offense. I do wish you luck though.
No offense taken, thanks for reading and givig your opinion, and I
hope you can move on and find something out there that you do like,
rather than wasting all your time with me.
> No offense taken, thanks for reading and givig your opinion, and I
> hope you can move on and find something out there that you do like,
> rather than wasting all your time with me.
I pretty much come and go as I please, here, there, wherever. Today
I'll be writing in the air at 30.000 feet. My time is my time, and
I'm actually fairly productive and successful within the context of my
business if you haven't noticed. I've never wasted a single moment
with you, Will. I do what I want with my time, and I am paid
exceptionally well for every minute I spend working on virtually
anything I do, because there are people who appreciate my skills and
expertise that much. We've never met, remember? Your time is your
time wherever you are, and my time is mine. If you think time is
being wasted here, I'd respectfully suggest you look at your own
clock, because believe it or not, I have things to do and business to
conduct, and I just don't have time to wait for you to get your shit
together.
That's good, so go have a nice day.

I am! I enjoy fucking with you, Will.
Deal with it, or go fuck off yourself, dickhead.
Okay... and thanks for reading & commenting, as usual.
No worries ... and thanks for acting like such a dickhead, Will. It
makes fucking with you so much more enjoyable! The way you behave!
You posture, trying to position yourself, insinuating you intentions
by cutting my original commentary in context in order to insert your
measly litte "thanks for reading & commenting, as usual". Utterly
laughable!!
You're welcome, pal.
Why do you fuck with my words and cut them off like that, Will? I
thought you were the one who HATED when anybody fucked with YOUR
words? Feeling a bit inadequate today are we? Can't quite get up
enough steam to make up your own words, so you feel you have to cut me
off in order to get your piddly little "pal" crap in there? We're not
pals, Will. Get that through your ever so thick fucking head. You
treat me like shit, always have. I don't like you for the way you
respond. You DO NOT make me feel AT ALL welcome. Thus, your words
are all A LIE.
Okay, if you insist.

That's your doing, not mine. You refuse to provide any context in
which what you posted after that is appropriate or applicable to
anything I posted. You quote me entirely out of context. You do it
intentionally without respect or regard for my concerns in the matter
which makes it insulting. My pals don't insult me, thus we cannot be
pals, Will. I'm not pals with people who steal from me. You stole
the context in which my words were posted.
Sometimes you do and sometimes you come across as trying to be just
the opposite.
--
That's all in your perception, Will. I'm one person, and I have a
personal and professional record of remarkable consistency. Please
try to address my comments in their entirety from now on. I give
thought and effort to the words I write. Your butchery is
inconsiderate. Please stop doing it. If you don't want to comment on
what I say, don't comment. If you want to respond briefly, respond
briefly to the entire body of text that I've constructed. I'd
appreciate it if you'd respect my text at least as much as I've shown
that I respect yours by not cutting it. By the way, you still owe me
a small apology. Thanks in advance.
Of course it is.
Your perception wavers. My intentions do not.
Problem is your perception of me seems to waver from day to day.
> My intentions do not.
I'll take your word for it, then... heh.
> > Your perception wavers.
>
> Problem is your perception of me seems to waver from day to day.
Exactly. That's YOUR problem. It's certainly not my problem. My
perception of you here is consistent with my understanding of you as a
person in the 'real' world. The only thing that changes is how I SEEM
to you. Again, that reflects YOUR faulty perception.
> > My intentions do not.
>
> I'll take your word for it, then... heh.
You don't have to. You could look inside yourself and know I'm
telling you the truth, but I think that might be too scary for you
because then you'd have to admit you're wrong, and you can't SEEM to
bring yourself to do that.
Not a problem here, I just learned some time ago not to take anything
you write here seriously, because with your mood swings, what you
write today and what you write tomorrow may have nothing in common.
Yeah... so much for your whining about being snipped, right?
<unsnip>

Except the one constant that's becoming obvious... your ever
increasing obsession with "Will Dockery".
Why do use the word whining so much? I actually spend most of my time
laughing. See, it's all about perception, Will.
> Except the one constant that's becoming obvious... your ever
> increasing obsession with "Will Dockery".
Yes, dear. Please bend over and I shall administer yet another dose
of the Corey obsession that makes you walk like a duck, for I am
indeed a master Duck fucker. QED
Because that's what these endless and desperate posts of yours come
across as... just a heads-up, since you don't seem to notice.
Oh, okay. So you think I come across as desperate, is that it? LOL!!
Yeah, and you whine a lot.

LOL!!!
Not at all, that's why I keep things simple.
True, you are most definitely simple minded.
Well you just told George to "Do whatever you want" with your verse,
though.
I GAVE George authority, not you. LOL!!
You seem confused, I never asked for, or wanted any authority with
your poems in any way... they just don't interest me that much.
I don't care if you never look at my poetry. We were talking about
authority and I said you assume authority that isn't yours to take.
You mentioned George and quoted me, so I was simply explaining the
difference between having authority and assuming authority. I gave
George authority to do what he wanted to the verse, not to the title.
Only I can change my titles.
Yet here you are, day-in and day-out, insisting how much you "don't
care".

I care about my poetry. I just don't care if YOU never look at it.
You've already admitted you're too ignorant to understand most of it
anyway.
That's cool, I've found that your poems are of the "seen one, seen 'em
all" variety, anyhow.

dark side of the cold
Spring is trapped

Exactly!! You're two fucking stupid to tell the difference between
them, and apparently too busy with whatever else you're doing to even
be bothered enough to try, so why the fuck would I care?
That's the problem with them, there's not enough content to make them
interesting enough to see any difference between them.
Here's a good example of poetry with /content/:
> > > Sky Song
>

That's only your problem. That's not THE problem. I don't have that
problem with them, and neither do most who have commented about them,
so your comment doesn't cause a problem for me. Some people actually
retweet them, which is certainly no problem, and a number of people
have actually started to pay me for the content that I'm posting to my
blog, and that's the biggest no problem of all!
Well, congratulations, Corey! I had no idea you'd become such a hit
poet... maybe the next Rod McKuen?
So, I'll change that to, in my opinion, *your* problem is that you
write sing-song gobbledygook with little to no, or perhaps even worse,
boring content.
Yes, I heard you the first dozen times you said the same thing. That
doesn't make it so; it just makes you look stupider every time you say
it. Okay, so you don't understand something. Why is it so difficult
for you to ask what something means, or God forbid actually put a
little study into something, rather than simply dismiss it with little
more than cursory perusal? You demonstrate intellectual laziness. I
can't help you with that. I can show you how to get into better
mental shape, but I can't make you do the reps. I just make them
easier, more tolerable.
<snip for focus>
> Why is it so difficult
> for you to ask what something means
That's my point. To me, there's nothing of enough interest in any of
your poetry to make me want to ask questions, there's no mystery, no
poetic spark, just hacked out rhymes.
You just had to write "hacked" for some reason, didn't you? Examine
that word with your angry little mind.
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/hackwork
"...either repetitive or done to a formula."
I just called your poetry "fluff"
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/fluff
"Anything inconsequential or superficial.
That [poem by Corey] was basically a bunch of fluff. It didn't say
anything substantive."
a couple of minutes ago, but both terms fit your lifeless, content-
free rhyming exercises, Corey:
"But yeah, I remember it got around to where I was planning to read
one of your poems, but the one you kept wanting me to read was (in my
opinion) so awful, it began to look way too much like I'd have to do a
major re-write to bring any of your poems up to my usual standards.
Now, this new one, "Karla's Song", I like a lot... certainly compared
to your usual fluff."
Your move.
You're right. I've really got to get a move on here. I've got a job
starting today for Hughes Network Systems at the Satellite Show in
DC. It's a brand new double decker build out of Derse SRS in
Atlanta. I really do work for a living. I manage a pretty
substantial company. Serious people depend on me. They can wait
because this is important. You are important. You feel me now,
asshole?
Okay, I'll take your word for it...
Take my dick to your tonsils so I can throat fuck you. Ahhhh, that
feels soooooo good. Thanks, bitch.
No thanks, I don't want anything you have.
You suck me like you suck up every post I write here. Nobody else is
writing here, Will. It's just you and me right now, and my writing
doesn't suck, so it must be you. SUCKER!!
In your opinion.
In the opinions of those who matter.
"We know."

"LOL!!"
Thanks for reading & commenting.
<unsnipped for c&c>
Well, for starters, there's "Music of the Spheres":

> "Musica universalis (lit. universal music, or music of the spheres) is

> The moon sings,

Rubber Balling
I can make you come. I ball you
up against the wall, too dumb to
feel the pain. Your brain is pounding.
Memories remain, astounding!
All you need, accede to pleasure.
Bounce right back! Each moment, treasure.
Well, that's getting better. At least there's a little more of that
Shel Silverstein feel to it, like when he was writing for Dr. Hook.
Still a bit of fluffy hackwork, but readable.

I write for all ages and appetites, Will. If you actually took the
time to check out my blog, I'm sure you'd find something that would
attract your attention in and amongst all the fluffy hackwork. If
not, my loss. No worries. I certainly wouldn't want to subject you
to any more hackwork than you've already experienced. You appear a
bloody mess as is.
Okay, I'll do that... and in the meantime what do you say we call a
truce on all this? I can't see how it can be doing you any more good
than it's doing me.
Like the "mantra" comment you made earlier, we've pretty well gone
over every angle on how much we can't stand each other, hate the
other's poetry, and so on. Maybe save it until someone new comes along
and we can break it back out so they'll make no mistakes which sides
of the fence we're on?
Dude, just shut the fuck up and pay attention for a stupid second.
It's all good. It's all love. It's all words. Nobody here hates
you. Nobody here hates your music or your poetry. Everybody here is
all about peace, love and understanding. Everybody here writes for
just that reason, otherwise they'd either be fucking, or fighting.
All of the ggambles, PJRs, Hirunnymouses and other demons full of
"negative energy" you've been railing against; all of the
"misrepresentations", have just been you fighting yourself to be
understood. Not so much getting the pussy out of your written voice,
but getting to a place where you feel comfortable with the pussy
that's in you, that's in all of us. Embrace your pussiness, Will.,
for pussiness is goodliness. As gg says (that's GAGA, for all you
little non-monsters), "Don't be a drag, just be a Queen."
Okay... this place is actually a shrine to Saint Dennis M. of The Hammes...
let The Truce begin, Excelsior!
No, this place is MY house, bitch! Look around! Sure, you can come
and go as you please, and spout off whatever stupidness you want, but
there's no denying I OWN this bitch, and all you little bitches that
come here, EVERY time you come here.
THIS IS THE MOUSE'S HOUSE, MUTHERFUCKERS!!
I'd tell you to kneel at my feet, but that would be really, really
low, don't you think?
You'd think knot, wouldn't you?
You have a point, but Corey does have his "good days", when he suddenly
shifts gears & writes things like:

Of course that doesn't last so long, then he's back spewing his obscene
rants...
