Let's do something
we responsible people
don't usually do.
Let's enjoy being
unethical, shall we?
Let's say me, you,
and a friend of mine
decide to rob a museum.
We will divorce the art
from the walls, then
disappear again, as subtlely
as a hippopotamus
lowering its head below water.
Underground, collectors
will take to us like kids
to the ice cream truck. C'mon,
you can't back out now.
After all, Anatomy, the study of
bones and musculature that served
Da Vinci so well,
could begin in your closet.
Show me where the bones
are buried, that spot 6 feet
deep within yourself
where art does not exist.
No blank slates, no clean canvases,
only paint splattered in so
haphazard a fashion,
even lovers of abstraction could not
figure out which way to hang you.
Yes, I'm a piece of work, aren't I,
to resort that.
Once inside, we shrink the museum's
inventory down to two paintings.
My friend snatches a Gouguin,
not only because it is one of two artists
he's heard of, but also the skill level
is well within his range to counterfeit.
Not that we will realistically sink to this,
but things happen. As if to underscore
how socialization paints guilt
into everything we do,
you want to steal a Monet.
The good thing
is that it's not too large.
But Manet is an Impressionist,
which technically means he uses dots
of color, not full strokes,
to make his point, and,
on another level,
this makes perfect sense because
we see the subject more clearly
as we move closer
and its dot patterns converge:
we see ourselves
stealing the painting
in the painting.

No problem. I just thought I'd bring it to your attention because it
if wasn't a typo, I then had to ask what you meant.

I knew a man once who used to call Picasso "Pig's Asshole." I guess he
didn't like him.
If Degas is "da gas" is Duchamp "da champ"?

Wasn't Red Nitsky a fullback for the famous Flying Death Line in 1926?

Quentin,
you better use Monet
even if Impressionism does not technically means
the use of dots of color, instead of full strokes,
with Monet you can save those lines.
Manet does use full strokes, and loved black.
He is there in the edge of Impressionism, but not quite.

You're one smart cookie. Hey, do you mind if I put some of your
paintings at my site (http://members.tripod.com/~mikestephens)? I was
thinking of some of those that you did for Sam's "neighborhood" poems --
the one of me and Sometimes, a few others. Please say yes.

Oh yeah, the Nitsky Nutsky; tasty but oddly enough packed with lug nuts.
The old lug himself reified in a rare crunch treat. "If you stare long
enough into the wrapper, the wrapper stares back."
My favorite footballer? Art Ramboo, the articulate (yet uncivil) "Ty
Cobb of the Touchdown" and quarterback for the Charleville Charlatans
from 1934-1941. Went to war and never came back. No candy bar, no small
time celebrity. All he left behind was three wild-eyed boys and a
smalltown full of grief. The little woman (Pauline) dedicated a gas
station in his name which is still operating (although its now the
Charleville Amoco). Ah, trhe heroes of our youth felled by time and
tactics.
