Hello, my name is Barry Scott, and I am an artist and a designer. I have recently been accepted into a degree program in fine arts at the Corcoran School of Arts here in Washington, D.C.. I have moved into the District for one thing only. I am determined to create something huge out of myself in the world of art. I have been creating art for business and pleasure since I was very small, and have created art in a variety of media along the way. I have tried to find work in the district since I arrived here last May, and have been unsuccessful, as the city is large, and has a sizable population of degreed artists. This is what has prompted me to try to finally get the college degree I have not so far found time to acheive.

The Corcoran School of Arts is attached to the Corcoran Museum of Art, next door to the White House. It is not an easy school to get accepted into. It is even harder to pay the tuition. I am a 42 year old white male, and lets just say, I am not among the first to get any financial aide. I was to start this winter, but the only option for me was to pay my tuition by taking a loan for the entire amount. We are talking about $14,500.00, just for the school and books, and I would still have to pay for art supplies, and any other "extras" that come up.

I live here with my wife and teenage son, and my wife works. We can pay the rent and bills, but we are not exactly living in the lap of luxury. We left a huge house in southern Virginia to move into our little apartment here, twice the price for half the space. All for our chance to try to live our dreams, and to expose our son to a better standard of living and education. They love it here, as I do. We will make it work, but for me to reach for my dream, I must get this degree, at the Corcoran, to make it work.

There is only one thing I know as well as art, and that is that the world wide web is a huge, swarming mass of information, which I have been trying to work, to find some assistance for this plan of mine. So far, little has worked out. I have now come up with a viable plan to take care of two problems at once. In order to gain the acceptance in the art world that I desire, I need exposure. I also need to find a way to pay my tuition for school, or at least, take a big chunk out of the price. So, here is the plan.

I will take donations towards my tuition, and in return, I will provide art in return. If you can find a way to write it off on top of it all, more power to you.

I can accept anything, from a dollar, to whatever you can feel is comfortable. I can provide art in return, from computer graphics, to photography, to paintings, to something for the corporate boardroom or entry. I will not take anything without providing something in return, it is not in my nature.

For donations from a dollar to say, twenty dollars, I will send you a computer graphic I have produced, or an 8x10 glossy of something of Washington D.C., I do have an abundance of good photos I have taken since I have moved here.

For donations of twenty to one hundred dollars, I will send you a peice of art on paper, a sketch, a pastel, a landscape. You can even tell me what you would like to see, I will produce it for you, and sign and date it, when I make it big, you will have an early work.

For any larger donations, I will produce paintings. A square foot per hundred dollars, to a maximum of 4' x 4', the largest that can safely be transported by common carriers.

For any art, feel free to tell me what you want in suject matter, but you will have to allow me the freedom to be an artist, and accept what is sent. You will not be dissappointed. I am a professional, and as such, I am trying to create the best for all parties involved.

I would like to thank you for your time for reading this, and I hope that the web won't let me down. Peace.

Please feel free to E-mail me at: Heron...@msn.com

P.S.- Don't come over, unless you want to hand deliver a big chunk. I am writing this in the middle of the night, and my wife is not expecting visitors. Thanks.

A word of advice from one who has been there-done that.  Think of the money in terms of a vehicle.  Most people wouldn't hesitate to take out a loan for a $35,000 vehicle.  Look at how much more valuable an education is!  Take out MORE loans!  Also, (this is extremely important) if you are going to give out your address on the net, get a P.O. Box #.  They are about $30/2x yearly.  Much safer for you and your family, also, much safer for when you have openings and have to have information about yourself passed around to every psycho art critic/groupie in the area.  Good luck!
