Greetings from R.O.N. Magazine:

DID YOU KNOW that much of the painting and sculpture produced today
actually does have meaning behind it? Or that some is produced to be
intentionally indecipherable simply to 'play the game' of getting
gallery representation? Would you like to be able to distinguish between
the two? Would you like to be able to read the meaning behind the work?
It can be done!

ANYONE CAN UNDERSTAND CONTEMPORARY ART!

RESOLUTION OF NEUROSIS is a quarterly art magazine for those who do not
have a fine arts education or even any background in the arts
whatsoever, but do possess a curiosity about it. If you've never read
essays by Foucault, Lacan, Barthes, Gablik or Greenberg, don't worry
about it. RON can be your guide to understanding contemporary art,
artists and the creative process; explaining art theory and all the
baffling aspects in a clear and easy to understand manner.

RON provides to the reader:
*explanations of art theory
*interviews with painters, dancers, actors and musicians
*insights into how art is used for persuasion in packaging and
commercials
*photographs of beautiful artwork with explanations from the artist
*occasional offers for FREE limited edition prints
*an opportunity to write in and offer suggestions or ask questions about
art

Driven to further his own artistic knowledge, skills of design and
visual expression, and exposure to a wider range of artistic endeavors,
artist and founder of RON, Douglas Weldon, has produced this magazine to
accomplish these goals while making knowledge and insight gained
available to anyone wanting to read of it; a clean hands approach, if
you will, to the often messy and incomprehensible art world.

The writing:
"I called the auto club and sat on top of the van at my campsite, alone,
cold, watching the mist on the sea-breeze drift through the nasty little
yellow halos around the sodium street lights, waiting for the locksmith
and having my legs mistaken for a living sacrifice to the mosquito
demons." (excerpt from the introduction of R.O.N. #1)

RON magazine is written in a more personal and idiosyncratic style than
is found in most magazines. An article may start out focused on a
particular work of art and then drift off into military service or a
surf trip to Cape Hatteras. This happens because Weldon wants to relate
what most influences his own art and how new experiences are having
effect. Like a journal, RON records Weldon's interaction with other
artists and the action of working out new thoughts on paper. Writing
such articles presents the challenge of developing a clear and well
defined understanding of another artist's work. RON presents this work
and explains the motivations and the creative processes that the artists
use to produce their works of art.

The first issue featured the subjects of independent cinema,
contemporary dance and an explanation of Modernism. There were also
typos (typos good, editors bad). The favorite typo so far is in a
statement saying that a future issue will include an interview with Ken
Block of Sister Hazel while the band works on their next albumn. Not
only is album misspelled (those darn M &N keys are so close together),
but albums are no longer produced--it serves to place Weldon's age.

A subscription to RON makes an excellent gift for a son or daughter
interested in the arts.
