info on art galleries?

Hi,

I'm doing research for a story and I'm looking for information on art
galleries and how they operate. I'm particularly interested in how artists
get an exhibition and the financial side of the artist and the gallery owner
in the event a painting is sold. Can anyone tell me a bit more about that or
maybe refer me?
