Art directories of American/European painters?

Can anybody refer me to a directory on the net, that might list the majority
of American and European painters and sculpters? I have close to 100
oil-paintings/drawings/lithographs/watercolors and a couple of sculptures,
all signed and seemingly done by very good painters (no amateur stuff).
Since I do not want to spend a lot of money for a professional appraiser, I
wonder whether I can research these artists via the internet.
I tried the local libraries, but they usually have very limited numbers of
directories on hand. And the ones they do have, are just about very famous
painters (or the best known artist).
I also tried to enlist the help of "Christies", but they are only interested
in major (famous) artworks.
Any help would be appreciated.
