NEW NEWSGROUP: aus.art
DESCRIPTION: all matters relating to the appreciation and the production of
art in and of Australia.
MODERATION: unmoderated

DISTRIBUTION: aus.general, aus.net.news, aus.news, aus.news.announce,
alt.art.marketplace, alt.art.scene, rec.arts.fine, rec.arts.misc (the last
four to try to reach those interested in art in Australia but currently
forced to use other newsgroups).
AIMS: The aims of this newsgroup are:
1. to discuss all matters relating to the appreciation and the production of
art in and of Australia.
2. to provide help and support to local artists.
3. to announce art events of local interest.
4. to announce local art-related employment opportunities.
DISCUSSION: Australian artists and art lovers have particular problems,
perceptions and opportunities in terms of their geographic isolation and
small market. This newgroup aims to provide Australian artists and those
interested in art in Australia a forum in which to focus on local issues
without being drowned out by foreign interests.
For the purposes of this newsgroup the term "art" encompasses knowledge,
objects and displays of aesthetic merit and requiring skill in their
production. It includes but is not restricted to areas generally regarded
as art, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, illumination, calligraphy,
weaving, tapestry, collage, embroidery and pottery. As such it includes but
is not restricted to such styles or categories as classical art, naïve art,
art brut, folk art, outsider art, indigenous art, contemporary art, modern
art, art deco, art nouveau, abstract art and pop art.
This newsgroup is not intended for other arts, such as music, theatre, film
or poetry, for which other newsgroups exist (such as aus.films,
aus.theatre).
CROSS POSTING:
Please do not cross post. Posts containing Australian information would
simply add to the congestion problems of non-Australian newsgroups.
COMMERCIAL POSTING: Limited commercial information is permitted but NO
commercial advertising. Permitted information is limited to information
regarding the location of Web sites etc relating to Australian art.
BINARIES: Posting of binaries, such as .zip, .tar, .jpg, .gif, .bmp files
and so forth, is not permitted. They should be posted in a relevant
newsgroup such as in the alt.binaries.* hierarchy or on a Web site.
