Playing Cards:

1. "Comme Ci, Comme Ca !" (Anything Goes) by Varga issued by
G. H. Waldock, Inc., The Best-Beef-Veal-Lamb company, as
an advertising ploy. These Redi-Slip Remembrance playing
cards were distributed by Brown & Bigelow of St. Paul,
Minn. The package containing 2 decks of cards is made of
cardboard with a picture on the front. The rest of the
package is covered with a gold-like tinfoil. The package
is in VG condition. There is a gold coloured inner cover
and a Redi-Slip inspector's slip in the package but there
is no tax stamp. The card decks are in NM and M (unopened)
condition. The 52 playing cards plus 1 joker showing a
Varga girl and the other joker giving a brief synopsis
of Alberto Varga. The backs of the cards are wine
coloured with a white mask depicting comedy and a black

Not Varga:

1. "The DECK" by INK, INC. of N.Y. N.Y. 2 card decks in a hard
plastic case (M) with a clear top and black bottom with
a white cardboard outer sleeve. The decks are the creation
of 5 well known artists whose cartoon work graces the pages
of The New Yorker magazine. Please forgive me but I am
hard pressed to give you all 5 of their names because I
can not make out some of their signatures. However, the
clubs were done by Lorenz, the jokers and cardbacks by
Ziegcer, for the hearts it looks like W. Soleig and for
the diamonds R. Cerast or R. Chrast and finally for spades
a cute, wavey line. 100.00

2. A 1947 calendar with 12 images by Petty, a comtemporary of
Vargas' work. The calendar measures approx. 9" x 12"
with both the cardboard backing and plastic ring holder
intact. The months show very little wear or aging 60.00

3. Folies Bergere at the Casino D'enghien 11 kilometers from
Paris - a 32 page pictorial (colour & B/W) display (NM) of
the entertainment available at this reknown establishment,
the cover is done in soft black felt with the title
"Folies Bergere" and a profile of a kneeling nude female
done in gold gilt, a sheet of glossy paper separates the
outer cover from the first & last pages. The cover is in
G+ condition with 1 tear (0.25") a third of the way up the
right hand side and the top left corner is missing a very,
very small piece of felt 35.00
