People always talk about selling art on the web. I have met maybe two or
three people who have actually bought art on the web. I was wondering if
anybody out there had bought a painting as a result of seeing it on a
website. How does it feel to buy art in this way? Do you believe there is a
possibility that this will become more and more the way people buy art? I
see the internet as information only. But I am tempted to think about credit
cards online but am not sure if it makes sense.

Kind Regards

If you are talking about high-priced paintings I think you'll find it hard.
On the other hand, Endless Fine Art has found the web a great help for
selling modestly priced limited edition sporting prints. Furthermore, our
market has become international whereas before we were almost entirely
selling to UK and Irish customers.

If an edition of say 500 UK prints is sold round the world, whereas most
will stay in the UK an international customer might well be the only owner
of that print in his country.

Nick,

Tuesday there was a big story in the dutch newspaper www.ad.nl "Algemeen
dagblad" called "An untransparant jungle"

Because a dutchman is buying art on the net.
He payed a lot af money for a painting of Richard Diebenkornand now it's the
question of it is a real one or a copy.
He ows a gallerie and knows what he is doing...
When he see something on the net he makes an appointment and fly to the
owner.
So he said " I save a lot of money" because I don't have to pay the
auctionhouses !

I think its worthfull if its valuble art and you are an "expert".
His site is :
