A lot of us do, but in this n.g., we only talk about it.

Lots of folks try to sell here, but we're all struggling artists ourselves.

"prints" at an auction (it was original work!!)

Finding the write venue to sell your art is probably the most frustrating part
of the battle to be a freelance artist. If you're doing stuff that's more
along gallery lines (art to hang on your wall instead of art for a commissioned
client and purpose, such as a book spot or advertisement) you may wish to look
into things like print markets, or greeting cards or calendars. Easier said
than done of course, but it's a new direction to pursue, especially if the
smaller street fairs aren't working for you.

Have you approached any galleries? How would you prefer your art support you?

Later :)

Okay, maybe I can't help that well, but I can certainly sympathize!

I was selling prints from my site, full color 8x10 I gave at a discount to a
customer for 10 bucks (including shipping!) and she was disappointed that it
wasn't an original! What?! Yeah, I'm going to sell full color ORIGINALS for
10 bucks... it's darn insulting!

Since you do line work and cartoons perhaps you'd be better looking at more print
markets, like magazines and books, and greeting cards. There can also be a market
for small one-off jobs, like caricatures and individual cards and presents too. I
don't know much about the comic book market (which does not assume I know much
about *any* market! :)P but there are other UK people on this list who have had
some successes there. It seems healthy in your part of the world at least :)

Newspapers sometimes also are willing to give out spot illo jobs to newcomers in
the field. It may not lead to future work, but it can be a good piece for the ol'
portfolio.

I hear that :)P It's probably not that you *can't* do it, but you've got no
motivation to - especially when they've already got those 'nice piccys' all over
their walls. My artistic sensibility would scream 'show me something else!!" :)

Have you got any of your work posted online? People around here are pretty good
at constructive criticism and if we get a look at your work it might suggest
something. Having a fresh set of eyes looking at your work might help.

Later :)
