Footed arrows?

**I needs a little help... I like to shoot long bows and recurves. I
Have always lined shooting wooden arrows and have recently looked at
making my own wooden arrows. - No big deal or so I though.. fletching
rig, arrows shafts,wood sealent, glue in field tips and glue on
nocks... Now I see footed arrows... please help me understand what
they are, why they are better than a standard shaft and why would I
need to make them... Thanks in advance ..

A footed arrow shaft is a custom shaft, where the first 1/3 of the
shaft, starting at the broadhead end is made with a different type of
wood, usually some type of hard wood. The thought is that by doing this
there is less likelihood that the arrow will break at this vital point.
The way that the two types of wood are joined appears to be quite
intricate. Having seen these shafts before, but never used them. I'm
not too sure that the benefit would be worth the extra cost. There is
at least one place that I know of that makes and sells these arrows, you
can Google them, I believe their name is "The Footed Shaft", they are
still in business, because I still get catalogs from them. If you can't
locate them, get back with me and I'll look up one of their catalogs and
get the address for you.
