My wife and I used to shoot a TON in Virginia, but haven't shot in over 10
years. She was a professional archer in those days shooting for Hoyt. I
shot barebow style with some success (485 to 500 scores). I used a Stemler
bow with a 52 " axel length. When they shut down I started shooting a Hoyt
with 48" axel length. When looking this week at archery makers, 38" is
about as long as I can find. Are there any long axel bows out there? What
are the current barebow shooters shooting these days?

Let me know if you have time!

Out of curiosity, why do you prefer long axel? Of course you should
shoot what best suits you, but I've always associated short-axel with
horizontal limbs, which reduce shake. They're also typically lighter
and don't bang or snag when moving around.

What are the advantages of a long-axel bow?

Thanks!
