My Pleco

[Tropia]

I've had this medium to large Pleco for about six months now, he's in
a 40 gal tank with only a Red Devil, this fish never moves, he stays
sucked to the under side of a bowl rock, he never goes scrounging for
food or anything. I would have figured he'd starve to death by now, do
you think he's just extremely lazy or maybe something wrong with him,
should I be concerned? Do you think he gets enough nourishment just
stuck there? Sometimes I'll drop Tetra ColorBits by him, but he won't
go after it. Any suggestions?

Plecs normally feed at night. Put some sinking food in a few minutes before
lights out and leave him to it. Another good way to feed them is a piece of
cucumber weighted down overnight, they will eat the flesh and leave the
rind. If you want to see them naturally, you could try adding a red light to
the tank at night as fish generally don't see this colour ad will think it
is dark, or perhaps an actinic light usually used with marine.

Thanks Mark, I'm sure he doesn't even move at night, I've watched him
many a night. I wonder how long it takes a large fish to starve to
death? I'm afraid his lack of activity is detrimental to his health.

A couple weeks after posting this the pleco finally came out, ate a
little bit but was acting strange, about a week later he died. I think
he knew his time was up.
