ATTENTION, IDIOT. SprintNet is testing a FEW 14.4ks out on a FEW lines of a
FEW hunts. It is not reliable, supported, or announced. Many of the hunts
only support _1200_: the same modems I used to hook up to Q-Link in the mid-
80s.

Jeez, what an moron. You made my mailer's killfile a week ago, now you're
working on the news kill...

Good lord. I guess we each read the things we want to see. I've never said
that I'm getting rid of my AOL account. I said I plan on getting an
account with an access provider. *Yes* AOL's newsgroup reader sucks. *Yes*
their attempt at ftp is miserable. No one should fall for the hype that's
being pushed out of Virginia and sign on to AOL solely for internet use.
But I'll still use AOL for quick access to files and some good forums and
direct product support. Two stories:

While lurking through some of the other messages in this group, I read
where someone was fed up with the number of windows opened on the Mac
while using AOL's ftp area. The next post tells of a control panel called
"Stretch" that iconifies windows with a click. I copy the filename, paste
it in a file search window and select the found file for a download from
AOL. Total time from when I decided I wanted the file to the start of the
download: 3 seconds.

A few months ago in comp.sys.mac.graphics, someone was trying to find the
ftp site for a CD+Graphics player he had heard about for the Macintosh.
Using the same procedure as detailed above, total time: 2 seconds.

I guess the point here is that AOL *can* provide a useful service if you
steer clear of the marketing machine spewed forth by Mr. Case. As far as
Mssrs. Egelhof and Finley's "infinitely interesting" prose talents go, to
each their own. Personally, I can see "?" "?" "?" and "dumbass" bantered
back and forth for only so long.

Ooooooo! Something to work towards!! Apparently little Jimmy didn't get
enough attention from his mommy today. Please add me to your news killfile.
Thank you.

That will be one less moron responding in an juvenilie manner. :)

All right, you're getting alternate access for the Internet because AOL's
access sucks.

That's great. I've done the same. If you've been in this newsgroup for long
and paid attention, you know that I have an AOL account, as does Egelhof. The
service has a couple useful things on it. I sometimes use it to do a quick
file search, but I've often found more recent versions of the shareware on ftp
servers. I most frequently use the gateway to American Airlines Sabre
reservations system (if anywhere knows of a way to access directly from the
'net, let me know). I never use it for product support--you can email to
aol.com for most of those companies offering support from there.

I'd say that marketing oneself as far more than one can actually provide would
be a component of sucking.

As far as I know, Egelhof's only trademarked "idiot", but he may have an
application in on "moron". But if that's your concern, you've been a tad
one-sided, don't you think? I've seen way more dribble regurgitated by
Costomiris. Among others, but it's fun to single him out.

Ouch! stop! you'r hurting me! Seriously though it appear that much of my
original post lost its meaning for some reason. Ok I was poking fun at
AOLs offering 9600 baud connection.

Mr James (I have four addresses on AOL myself and can often be found
online) Egelhoff is certainly no better than those whom he thinks he
ridicules. Tell us Male 16 N...@aol.com what is that favorite quote of
yours

I make a typo every now and then, big fucking deal. This is not a crime.
Richard P. Feynman writes in his book. " There are two kinds of
fools......ordinary fools and pompous fools. Ordinary fools are alright,
you can talk to them and try to help them out. But pompous fools - guys
who are fools and are covering it all over and impressing people as to how
wonderful they are.................. An ordinary fool isn't a faker;
and honest fool is all right. But a dishonest fool is terrible."

I may be an internet fool.
But I am an honest fool. Which kind are you?

How stupid of AOL... why should they do that? I mean, _everyone_ has a 300
baud only modem...

Idiot:

- Period at the end of sentences
- No spaces in Internet mail addresses
- That username's been deleted anyway

But it demonstrates carelessness and idiocy.

I am not a fool at all, you moron.

You misspelled "alt.startrek.creative". Hope this helps.

Quite true. I've had accounts with AOL or Quantum for a very long time.
