I can tell you what happened to the photo.

Recently someone posted my community URL in this group and shortly after
that I got an email from Web administration informing me that they received
notification that some of the photographers had complained about the
pictures hosted on the site.

As a result of that communication all of the photos were deleted.

I have seen all the arguments in this group but I looked at my site as
promoting both the women athletes and the photographers. I listed everyone's
URL as a location to see more pictures like those I posted. I guess these
photraphers don't what their work seen after all.

I don't know which site you are talking about...but as I've said before, the
way to get permission of photographers to use their photos in a way that
promotes them and their websites is to ask them.

Bill, I appreciate your work and I have been a fan for many years. I respect you and I undestand your position. However My Webshots site page had been for for most likely three years or so. It received a total of 919,790 views during that time. I am inclinded to say that many of you patrons got your web site address from the photos I had on my site. Further more I never posted complete galleries of your work. Most of the material that was there was generated over 10 years of surfing and collecting.

My site was intended to cultivate interest in a sport that has long been under appreciate and misunderstood. In the process of doing my small part to foster the interest in female bodybuilding the photographers and web site hosts would also benefit. I feel very certain that my site continubed to your and many other pay web sites the promote these fine athletes. Your complaint is the one who got the site deleted from Webshots. Her is a excerpt from the email communication:

As required by law, we have deleted 684 image(s) from
your Webshots photo albums because we received notification
that the image(s) were uploaded in violation of U.S. copyright law.

How can you report me for copywite enfigment when you benefited from my site more than I did. I invested my time and you got the benefit. Interesting exchange considering I am the one penalized.

I don't know what your website is. But in general, copyright law isn't
about who benefits or doesn't. As I've explained, if you want to set up
galleries of photographers' pictures and link to them to promote their sites
the way to do it is to contact them and get their permission.

Feel free to Email me directly on the subject if you like.

You guys are too much. Talk about finger pointing. Without any proof you
blame Bill Dobbins for shutting down someone's site by calling him a greedy
asshole. Without any proof you point fingers at four or more other people
doing the same thing. But, when Venus or Buffy posts their spam here you
welcome it with open arms. No wonder this group is falling to pieces. I
haven't been here in weeks and all I saw was 30 messages. Bottom line is if
you post stuff on Usenet, you have to expect everyone will see it, if you
don't want everyone to see it then don't post it here.

Let the flames begin.

I can not speak for anyone else on this group, but the email communication
that was sent to me from The Webshots Support Staff out right named Mr.
Dobbins as the individual who complained. If necessary I can post the entire
email thread.

Furthermore I rarely complain about anything that is said here in AAWA. My
post was a reply to a question that was asked about a site that I created on
Webshots. My email communicate is saturated with fact. I do not deem it
necessary to dwell in supposition, speculation or innuendos. I let everyone
in this group do their on thing.

This time the battle was brought to my door step and I thought I would
publicly answer the question about the missing photo on my Webshot site.

while it doesn't surprise me that Dobbins would do such a thing, it does
surprise me that the website staff notified you of his identity.

personally, I think the reasonable thing to do, if you object to a site's
use of your own pictures, is to first request that they be removed. I doubt
Dobbins took that step.

when I had the Star Power site I rarely got a request to remove a pic...when
I did, I simply removed it....problem solved.

I get dozens of Emails a week from fans telling me about sites using my
photos without authorization. I don't recall which website this is about.
I don't single anyone out. But, as I've said, I make lots of arrangements
with websites that want to use my photos and so do other photographers.
This way of doing things insures the photos used are good scans, not poor
ones copies from magazines, that each photo has a copyright notice and that
a hot link be provided. I also like to make sure the models and their sites
are identified.

It isn't very much promotion for me or for the FBBs to have bad scans, no
copyright notice, no hot links and sometimes no Ids on the women put on a
website by somebody who is not willing to go about things in a legitimate
manner - and this is what happens with most non-commercial "promotional"
sites.

Anyone wanting to create such a site should contact various photographers
and get their cooperation in the effort. They should also consider making
sure the women models get promotion as well as the copyright owner of the
photos.

Well, let's break this down. Dobbins claims ignorance of the site and I have no reason to
believe he's lying. I've never known Rob Sims to show up here, so he's unwilling to have seem
the post with the link in it, and there are WPW pics all over the net, unmolested. PuterDude
wouldn't have any reason for bothering a site like that. So who does that leave? Yes, Captain
Venus, bulldog of the vice squad. In case you missed it, one of her pictures was on that site.
You can thank her for closing it down, though she probably won't fess up to it. It wasn't
Dobbins. If you want to complain, you know who to direct it to.

Frankly I could care less. The site in no way generated income for me. As I
have previously stated, I merely want to highlight a wonderful sport whose
athletes do not get enough credit.

I only bring it up because I was getting inundated with questions about the
photos that were there. I have all 600+ images so its no loss to me.

I didn't say I was ignorant of the site. I said I don't know which site is
being referred to. In any event, the fact remains that any photographer has
a right to obect to his/her copyrighted material being published on the
Internet without permission - particularly on a website rather than as
individual photos and especially if its a commerical site.

The answer - I'll explain again - is for those who want "tribute" sites of
various kinds to deal with photographers and get them to give permission to
use photos. I have that arrangement with a lot of sites.

You're wrong. Venus was in here when that link was posted and she has a history of
going ballistic over that stuff. I'm sure by now he's already received the email
where she threatens to get her "lawyers" involved if he fucks with her again.

It seems that the paranoid armpit is back in town. Every time someone is
reported to some corporation for abuse you guys blame it on this guy
puterdude, I don't know what this guy did but so be it and I don't really
care. What makes you think I am this person? I have not reported anyone
(you'll believe what you want anyway being the paranoid bunch you are) but I
do know that armpit is the biggest troll on Usenet. I have seen stuff about
him where he reported people for doing the same thing he has done. This is a
fact that cannot be argued, just look at all the complaints against him by
doing a search on google like I did. Also the fact that armpit has not been
around in a while under that nym is proof that he is afraid of something.
I've heard that his ISP canceled his account for posting people's names and
addresses here and doing childish things like sending pizzas to their houses
along with magazine subscriptions. Now if that's not a troll then what is?
Anyway, you guys will believe what you want so I won't try to get you to
believe any kind of rational thought any longer.

To end all the confusion on this matter I will post the communiqué from
Webshots:

Hello Jeff,

to remove all copyright violations. If you don't comply with this email, we
have the right to delete all albums and terminate your account. Please feel

Jeff, thanks for posting this. Some people (including Dobbins) will be
