"What is so surprising is that rapid, almost sudden, changes take place in
the Earth's magnetic field," said study co-author Nils Olsen, a geophysicist
at the Danish National Space Center in Copenhagen.
The findings suggest similarly quick changes are simultaneously occurring in
the liquid metal, 1,900 miles (3,000 kilometers) below the surface, he said.
The swirling flow of molten iron and nickel around Earth's solid center
triggers an electrical current, which generates the planet's magnetic field.
(Learn more about Earth's interior.)
The study, published recently in Nature Geoscience, modeled Earth's magnetic
field using nine years of highly accurate satellite data.
Flip-Flop
Fluctuations in the magnetic field have occurred in several far-flung
regions of Earth, the researchers found.
In 2003 scientists found pronounced changes in the magnetic field in the
Australasian region. In 2004, however, the changes were focused on Southern
Africa.
The changes "may suggest the possibility of an upcoming reversal of the
geomagnetic field," said study co-author Mioara Mandea, a scientist at the
German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam.
Earth's magnetic field has reversed hundreds of times over the past billion
years, and the process could take thousands of years to complete.
(Related story: "Magnetic Field Weakening in Stages, Old Ships' Logs
Suggest" [May 11, 2006])
Upper Atmosphere Radiation
The decline in the magnetic field also is opening Earth's upper atmosphere
to intense charged particle radiation, scientists say.
Satellite data show the geomagnetic field decreasing in the South Atlantic
region, Mandea said, adding that an oval-shaped area east of Brazil is
significantly weaker than similar latitudes in other parts of the world.
"It is in this region that the shielding effect of the magnetic field is
severely reduced, thus allowing high energy particles of the hard radiation
belt to penetrate deep into the upper atmosphere to altitudes below a
hundred kilometers (62 miles)," Mandea said.
This radiation does not influence temperatures on Earth. The particles,
however, do affect technical and radio equipment and can damage electronic
equipment on satellites and airplanes, Olsen of the Danish space center
said.
Keep Watching
The study documents just how rapidly the flow in Earth's core is changing,
said Peter Olson, a geophysics professor at Johns Hopkins University in
Baltimore, Maryland, who was not involved with the research.
By using satellite imagery, researchers have a nearly continuous measurement
of changes, he said.
"They provide a good rationale to continue this monitoring longer," Olson
said.

Go back to alt.asshole.art-deco.
Imbecile.
We are not talking about a quick pole reversal that'll go unnoticed by
our frail DNA, but that of the ongoing long-term fading away of our
magnetosphere, eventually getting us somewhat like Mars as having
hardly any magnetosphere, whereas our SAA contour that's growing and
deepening essentially becomes a freaking GA(global anomaly).
In the past, not only was our magnetosphere much stronger to begin
with (10+ fold stronger), but this Earth also had a substantially more
robust atmosphere that's accomplishing most of the important work of
protecting our frail DNA from our solar, moon and cosmic radiation
(including terrestrial radiation shielding via atmosphere).
Here we see Art Deco stating that Brad and Alexa are weird people!:

It is highly unlikely you have 5 years.
-.05%/year is not implying 5 years, not even for those living directly
under the SAA contour.
However, as we lose our magnetosphere we tend to also lose our tidal
grasp upon our even more so DNA protective atmosphere.
One potential solution is to artificially make our atmosphere as CO2
polluted and acidic wet as possible, thereby more dense.
If the magnetic field does manage to reverse itself (as geological
history indicates), it'll take yet another 1500~2000 years just to get
us roughly back to where we're at, that is if the interaction of our
Selene/moon along with our 98.5% fluid Earth is even capable of such a
full recovery.
Our Selene/moon could be the most recent cause of the increased loss
in magnetosphere, starting in as of ever since the last ice-age this
Earth w/moon is ever going to see. Our Selene/moon could conceivably
prevent a full magnetic recovery.

Don't worry DARPA is only worried about two things:
1. getting laid
2. getting paid
And they need to believe Earth will be here tomorrow in order to fulfill
their life's purpose, which is getting laid and getting paid.
Besides, there's not a physicist among the entire group who would sacrifice

They don't understand electromagnetics, nor do they want to.

Buy the time you're finished whining about your nemesis, earth will be gone,
Carl.
By the time you're finished making stupid statements, Earth will be gone,
Carl.
You demonstrate yet again (in fact twice) what a complete moron you are.
1. You don't even understand the difference between Earth's axial rotation
and its orbital motion around the sun.
2. Even if Earth's rotational axis were to point toward the sun (which it
won't), why would that stop it rotating OR orbiting?
Uranus's axis points toward the sun (for at least two times during it's
year), but it still both rotates and orbits the sun. Can't say I've seen it
whizzing past Earth recently on a collision course with the sun.

That's not quite as funny as the last three posts.
Computer and physcial modelling of bi-phase (solid and liquid)
magnetic dynamos suggests long periods of "flickering" between
actual reversals. Its not clear how to tell the two phases apart

Top Global Warming Advocate: Jupiter & Saturn Closer To Sun Than Earth
Live Earth kingpin dismantles his own credibility on national radio as
propaganda bandwagon is massive flop
Prison Planet | July 9, 2007
Paul Joseph Watson
Live Earth's half empty stadiums and lackluster TV viewing figures were
preceded by another embarrassment after one of the propaganda bandwagon's
kingpins and a top global warming advocate responded to a question about
solar-system wide climate change by claiming that Jupiter, Mars and Saturn
were closer to the sun than Earth.
David Mayer de Rothschild is the youngest child (born 1978) of Sir Evelyn de
Rothschild, of the British wing of the Rothschild banking family.
Rothschild's recent book, 77 Essential Skills to Stop Climate Changes, calls
for ordinary people to limit outward behavior and even work at home and was
used as part of the PR blitz to accompany the Live Earth project.
Appearing on The Alex Jones Show this past Friday, Rothschild reacted to a
point about massive climate change at every point of the solar system and
its relation to natural sun cycles by claiming Mars, Saturn and Jupiter were
closer to the sun than Earth!
http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/november2006/161106suvjupiter.htm
Here's a brief transcript of the exchange.
ALEX JONES: "The polar icecaps of Mars are receding at several miles a year,
much faster than ours and that the moons of Saturn and Jupiter are melting,
in fact several of their moons were ice and are now liquid seas - how are
SUV's causing that David Rothschild?
ROTHSCHILD: "Because those planets are closer to the sun, my friend."
ALEX JONES: "No, Jupiter and Saturn are not closer to the sun and neither is
Mars."
Rothschild then quickly changes the subject and when the point is raised
again later in the show, he makes no effort to correct himself.

Last time we checked, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn were all orbiting the sun at
a greater distance than Earth.
http://www.infowars.com/images2/science/090707solarsystem.jpg
Rothschild's hilarious screw-up is yet another example as to why the general
public remain unconvinced by the error-strewn apocalyptic admonitions of the
climate cult .
A Mori poll released last week found that a majority of the UK population
were still skeptical about man-made global warming and believed the threats
were being exaggerated for political purposes and to make money.
Throughout the radio appearance, Rothschild parrots empty sound bite
platitudes about there only being "one earth," while failing to address
recent scientific analysis which reveals that the oldest plant DNA ever
discovered showed that "the planet was far warmer hundreds of thousands of
years ago than is generally believed," again underscoring the fact that
climate change is a routine and natural phenomenon that has occurred
throughout earth's history.
Although Rothschild stresses the existence of just one earth on numerous
occasions, it appears as though he thinks there is another one earth
orbiting the sun - at a greater distance than Saturn or Jupiter!
He also glibly repeats the charge that the radio station he was appearing
on, the Genesis Communications Network, was bankrolled by the oil industry
and that was the reason for challenging the monopoly on truth that the
man-made global warming crowd attribute themselves.
Deliciously ironic therefore it is that big oil men like the chairman of
British Petroleum Peter Sutherland are fanning the flames of global warming
hysteria in order to create artificial scarcity and drive up prices, while
also getting fat off the peak oil scam, another charade manufactured by the
oil companies and gleefully embraced by phony environmentalists.
http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/march2007/280307globalistslove.htm
http://www.gnn.tv/articles/2295/No_Peaking_The_Hubbert_Humbug
General Lord Guthrie, director of N.M. Rothschild & Sons, also recently
called for the elite to, "Address the global climate crisis with a single
voice, and impose rules that apply worldwide," (global government).
In addition, it was the Rothschild family itself that helped fund the
Rockefellers to create the first giant trusts and oil monopolies in the late
19th century.

If the ultimate off-world push came down to shove, likely because of
our WWIII making Earth a little more than humanly crappy and otherwise
too damn spendy for most of us, whereas via good technology we
(meaning the rich and powerful) could make Venus work, just like it

At least on Venus there’s far less local background radiation dosage,
even less of DNA harmful solar radiation getting through, hardly any
cosmic gamma and obviously none of those pesky moon gamma or secondary/
recoil X-rays to worry about, and there’s more than sufficient local
energy that’s perfectly clean and fully renewable by the hundreds of
terawatts to burn, so to speak. Don’t forget those hundreds of
teratonnes of acidic water that’s within them thick clouds, not to
mention whatever h2o can become isolated away from those CO2 and S8
spewing geothermal vents or taken out of whatever hot lava/mud flows.
There are actually many nifty technological advantages to what such a
geothermally toasty hot planet as Venus has to offer. Problem is that
you’d have to be smarter than a hot rock, and perhaps that’s asking
more than most of us have to work with.
Since we don’t know how to establish a Clarke Station or even that of
a Boeing OASIS at the Earth-moon L1, much less that of creating my LSE-
CM/ISS, means that utilizing the interior of our highly unusual Selene/
moon isn’t a viable option, with Mars being even worse off. Io and
Titan seem rather interesting, but far too far and otherwise spendy
and much more technologically demanding than Venus. Ceres is just too
damn small, even if it were offering an ideal environment, although
Mormons (with their population limited heaven) might tend to like that
notion of accommodating only a few of their own kind.

We don't? There are plenty of geostationary communications satellites.
And there are plenty of books and technical articles on how to build
O'Neil colonies.
Try telling that to our NASA or to any of their brown-nosed minions
and danage-control army of spooks moles and clowns as found within
Usenet/newsgroups.
As far as I can tell, our Selene/moon L1 is still entirely
taboo.nondisclosure rated, and even yourself hasn't a clue as to what
can be accomplished from being situated within that nifty location.
