A mother and daughter in Illinois have reported the sighting of a
large, slow-moving triangular aircraft.
The quality of this sighting
highlights a number of important questions
regarding the frequently-reported
black triangle UFOs.
On March 11 at about 10:30 pm, 16-year-old Samantha Szymczak was
driving near her home in Lemont, Illinois (about 20 miles southwest of
Chicago) when her sighting began. Here is her account:
While driving west on Main Street, I noticed an unusually bright light
towards the west. As I made a turn south on Walker Road, the object continued
east and came lower.
As I drove under it, I observed that it appeared to be of a triangle
shape, an equilateral triangle, with one white light on each of the two
vertices that form the base. I also noticed lines in the bottom that appeared
to be changes in the depth of the metal (or whatever it was made of).
It was moving very slowly and silently. It appeared to begin hovering
slowly [sic] in a southeasterly direction.
As I drove under it, it appeared to be the height [probably meaning
altitude] of about two evergreen trees, as compared to the evergreen trees in
front of my house. It took about five seconds to drive under this object, as
I was reducing my speed to look up at it. [Note: If she had slowed to 20
miles per hour, she would have traveled about 147 feet in 5 seconds. However,
time estimates in this kind of situation can be unreliable, and her actual
speed is not known.]
I continued to drive... I lost sight of it for about a minute while I
parked the car in my driveway. I got out of the car and looked for the
object. I saw it heading at about a 45 degree angle upwards while now moving
in a southerly direction.
As it changed direction, it appeared to rotate in the sky. There were
red, blue, and white lights which seemed to also rotate in a triangular
pattern, while flashing.
I then ran into the house to get my mom. [Presumably she lost sight of
the object again while getting her mother, but the object was still in view
when she came back outside.]
The object then resumed a horizontal path [i.e. leveled out], continuing
south for about a minute until [it] seemed to have changed directions and
began heading in a southwestern direction. It was still flashing red, blue
and white lights. It continued in a southwesterly direction until we lost
sight ot it. [End of Samantha's account.]
Michelle Szymczak, the mother, gives this account:
On March 11, 1999 at about 10:35 pm, my daughter arrived home, ran into the
house and yelled, "Mom, come outside right now! I think I just saw a UFO!"
I ran outside and to the end of my driveway on Walker Road. My daughter
pointed out some lights in the sky. These lights were over the house across
the street.
This object was up in the sky and appeared to be the size of my fist at
arms length. This object was moving slowly to the south. It appeared to be
floating.
This object was definitely shaped like a solid triangle. It did not have
wings or tail section as a plane would. I could see the underside of the
object, and a red light was in the center and flashing. There were white
lights on the points of the object that flashed and other lights along the
straight edges of this object that were white and blue.
Its movement was odd, as it was not leading with one of the pointed
edges, but rather with one of the straight edges. This gave the object the
illusion of floating sideways.
We watched the object travel in a southwesterly direction until we lost
sight of it. It always maintained a very slow, almost floating or gliding
speed. It made no sounds, as we were able to hear the wind and critters
running in the bushes.
It was a dark, clear night. Sounds usually travel very clearly out here.
Later in the night we went out to observe other lights that were
definitely planes. We could see the differentiation of the wings and tail
sections on these. We could also clearly hear engine noises on these.
In response to further questions, Michelle stated:
As far as I know, no one else saw this.
It was in a flight path of the planes that land at Midway Airport
[mid-town Chicago], but much lower. I called the airport, but they were not
"giving up" any information. They did, however, tape a report from me of what
I saw. There was no report in the local media.
My daughter is not the type that believes in UFOs. She actually feels
that they do not exist (at least that is how she used to feel). When she ran
into the house, I really knew that this would be something exciting, because
of her previous beliefs, and how shocked she sounded.
During the sighting, first, I just couldn't believe it. The two of us
were absolutely silent as we watched this craft flying. She was very
frightened, because she felt that it was following her.
Afterwards, I was excited for a couple of days. It was so surreal. Now,
I wish I'd had my binoculars, or a zoom lens of a camera, or something to get
a better look at this. I am disappointed that whatever it is, is still a
mystery...
I do believe, though, that it is some sort of human-built craft that was
perhaps being tested in this area, maybe even to see if it caused any chaos,
or if it got by without being detected.
CNI News notes: Based on this detailed multi-witness report, it seems clear
that the flying object moved slowly, possibly hovered for a short time,
changed directions by "rotating" and gained altitude by flying at an upward
angle. Its large size, triangle shape, unusual lighting and silent
performance are all characteristics that have been frequently described
before by other witnesses in the U.S. and elsewhere. All these
characteristics are consistent with a lighter-than-air (LTA) craft. This
report in particular lends credence to the supposition that such sightings --
some, at least -- may be attributed to a very large, apparently secret and
unacknowledged, human-built triangular LTA craft.
This raises several important questions:
-- Why are such apparently secret craft being flown over populated parts
of the country, always at night?
-- Why is the presence of such craft in urban airspace generally denied by
air traffic personnel, who should definitely be aware that such craft are
flying?
-- What is the propulsion system of this craft? (At close range, even
small engines of any conventional type should be somewhat audible.)
-- Can such craft be intended, as Michelle Szymczak suggests, to test
public response to such unusual aerial apparitions, or to condition the
public to the presence of such objects in our skies? Can they be construed as
a human-built ruse meant to distract attention from other objects, similar in
general appearance but far more exotic in fact, that might also be sighted in
our skies?
-- Is it not beyond reasonable doubt that such objects in fact exist, and
is the public not entitled to an explanation?

If it was in any way near Midway Airport's flight pattern, it would
have been witnessed by huge numbers of pilots, passengers and flight
crew going into (and out of) Midway Field.
So where are their reports of this 'triangle craft'?
Most telling:
> I called the airport, but they were not
>"giving up" any information.
Already we see the tone of 'conspiracy' with this statement. Again, if
it was in any way near Midway Airport's flight pattern, it would have
been witnessed by huge numbers of pilots, passengers and flight crew
going into (and out of) Midway Field. Where are their reports?
>They did, however, tape a report from me of what

SOP for possibly delusional nutjobs.
>There was no report in the local media.
Occam's Razor: No media reports because there was nothing there TO
report.
>This raises several important questions:
>-- Why are such apparently secret craft being flown over populated parts
>of the country, always at night?
Unproven Assumption (UA): that there ARE such craft, and they are
being flown at night over populated areas.
>-- Why is the presence of such craft in urban airspace generally denied by

Unproven Assumption (UA): that there ARE such craft, and they are
being flown in urban airspace.
>-- What is the propulsion system of this craft? (At close range, even
>small engines of any conventional type should be somewhat audible.)
Unproven Assumption (UA): that there ARE such craft, and they are
being flown using a propulsion system of unknown type. Additionally, a
google search of posts made here will show that aircraft engine noise
is not always audible to the ground observer.
>-- Can such craft be intended, as Michelle Szymczak suggests, to test

Unproven Assumption (UA): that there ARE such craft, and they are
being flown for the purposes mentioned. Additionally, when did
'Michelle' become an such expert on why such an object would be in the
skies that she can speculate on motive(s)?
>-- Is it not beyond reasonable doubt that such objects in fact exist, and

Of course not. Is it *likely* that such craft exist? Of course not.
Is there unambiguous evidence of the existence of such craft? Of
course not.
Once again, a Wholeflaffer story goes down in flames.

Huh? What's been proven, Artie? That you're a loon?

This is three years old, Art. What does this prove now?

Maybe your NSA/NASA pal Jimmy "cheezeburger"
O-BORG has "solved" this one. He says that
his dual organizations NRO/NASA can "solve"
anything. I'm sure he'll give us a multiple
hard copy of the ET craft, after all the public
has given NSA/NASA over 8 trillion dollars,
and what do we get: Echelon, and other
ways to monitor the public and the ETs.
I'll help the debunkers (again)

or was it Swamp Gas and Venus and Mars

you youngsters out there!!)
