Why does everybody use Eclipses????

Ok I use to use one too, cause everybody said that thats the best
airbrush to use. Well I recently bought an Aztek and it blows that
stupid eclipse out of the water. I no longer have the horrid hand
cramps or the wild search for the hidden crap in the nozzel. My clean
up time is at least 1/2 of what it use to be. It is 100% lighter and
if there is some hidden crap somewhere causing a clog I KNOW its not
in the body of the airbrush because the paint does NOT travel thru the
body. I know its plastic but it sure seems to be much more balanced
and hand friendly then any other airbrush I have ever used (especially
vega's that seemed to be extremely top heavy.)
It also has no trouble painting anything I have painted everything
from t-shirts to my first car with it and I love it
So anyways, I was just curious as to why more people don't use this
kind of airbrush....

I own an Aztek, but I found it's TOO light for me. Holding a heavier
brush (I don't own an Eclipse, either- I use a Passche VL for that size
work) is like holding a gun with a weighted barrel for me... the weight
tends to damp any jittering I may have in my hand. But everybody has
their thing when it comes to airbrushes, and if the Aztek is the one for
you, that's cool! I found my kids, who are starting out, love it- the
cleanup and nozzle changes are the quickest every with this gun.

I also bought an Aztek. I agree, it is much easier to handle. I have
Muscular Dystrophy so the lighter the better.

Which aztek do you use, I have never looked at them, I got an Iwata HPC and
I love it, but like to try new things. I have a badger 150 and a VL, the
VL I dislike but its a personal thing as everyone says.

Well I've use the Aztec and a DeVilbiss but give me a Paasche airbrush any
day..Here's two I've done this week.. eagle-ligntning is on a black T and
the Indian-eagle is on a black leather jacket.. Sorry about the quality of

An Aztek is better than an Eclipse? Wow! Maybe Craig Fraser should be told
about that since he uses and likes the Eclipse so much for bigger work. No
offense but if the Aztek was as good as you say then I think more of the top
artists out there would be using it. If you like it fine.

After reading the millions of responses I believe one point that really
stands out. I bet that if everyone that responded were to all line up next
to eacother and compare our hands and body size, we'd all be very different.
The bottom line is personal preference. If it works for you than use it!!!
I know some old school body shop guys that still use single action on Harley
and auto artwork when the general belief that Iwata HP-C or CM-C are best
for the job. They do some nice work at that. I also know people who use
the Iwata's, Paashe's, Badgers.....(No Aztecs though). This is not to say
they are bad, just not the preffered instrument by many artists in my area.
Heck, if you can get good results putting paint in your mouth and blowing it
through straws than do it!!! It is YOUR end result that the you or your
customer must be happy with. I personally use a Badger 360 (As a bottle
feeder) and it works fine on back grounds and medium detail. But I mainly
use an Iwata HP-C. It is what I began learning on and it keeps me in a
comfort zone so to speak.

The best statement, for sure! Airbrushes are very personal things, and
there simply ain't no "best", except the one that works for you hour
after hour. I have seen some incredible art produced with airbrushes
that simply won't work for anyone other than the artist .

craftsmanship, close tolerance machining and quality in design. I think
Iwata is in a class all it's own in that regard. I have even been told by
one of the most knowledgeable airbrush experts in the country that the Iwata
needles last longer than brands such as T&C because of the metal used. My

No arguement there! Iwata is truly one of the best guns in terms of
machining, tolerances, quality of materials used, etc. Are they worth
the extra money for the quality? You bet they are!

But just as Cadillacs aren't the cars for everybody, neither are
airbrushes. Owning a very finely made airbrush can be a real pain in
the ass for a user who isn't meticulous about cleaning and maintainance
or simply doesn't need the greater capability of a fine gun to do the
job. Occaisional airbrushers, or guys doing large work once in a while
may be served just as well (or better) by other makers.

It does us all good to think about what we use and why we use it once in
a while. Personally, I am damn glad there are as many good manufacturers
as there are, these days. There is something for everyone out there now,
and that's a situation that profits all of us.
